Dear Spyderco Official,

Back when Walmart first started carrying the knife I saw a message at the Candlepower Forum about it. I ran out to Walmart and got one.

I am very pleased. However, I wish to pick one small nit. The hole in the blade felt rough to my finger and showed uneven and unsightly machine marks in the hole.

I solved the problem by lightly boring out the hole on my drill press and then chamfering the hole on both sides with a cone shaped stone.

Overall fit and finish was fine. Lockup is fine. A little improvement on the machine work at the hole would have been a little better.

Thank you for your attention, Steve

Steve,
Here is a post from Sal, from our site forum... I hope it proves useful. Thanks for the comments.

It is not likely that we would begin bevelling the opening holes. We've done that in the past and found, that while it might "look" better, the function of the hole as an opener was better without the chamfer. In fact, a great deal of effort is extended to make the sure the hole is sharp enough to "bite", but not sharp enough to "cut".

Hi Kristi :) ,

Thank you for your comments. As a matter of fact, my daily carry knife for about 15 years has been a Benchmade AFCK. It is currently on it's second blade. I wore the first one out by use and resharpening. Two years ago I returned the knife to get a new blade. A new blade was installed at a total delivered cost of $35.

Both blades have had a bit of chamfer. It has not been a problem.

I am not an agent of BM. Nor am I am agent of any other company. I have been an agent of the USA.

I own many knives. I have carried an Endura and been happy. I even carried a Navy Mod O.

No fair! None of the 4 Walmarts in the Houston area I have looked in have the Native. I even looked when I was near Livingston while traveling-no luck there either. I give up

If you really want, the one in Galveston had them, at least a few months ago.

The Super Walmart store in Plano, Illinois sells Spyderco Natives. The smaller, regular Walmart stores I've visited in the area do not.

The thumb hole in my Native's blade felt the same way and I inspected it using a stereo microscope. There looked to be some metal splinters inside and the hole's edges were uncomfortably sharp. I used a tapered reamer to clean it up a little.

Also, the back of the blade was uncomfortably sharp on my hand when I reached into my pocket to retrieve the knife. I knocked the edges off slightly using a small diamond file.

An old Delica I inherited and EDC'd for a few years didn't have the same roughness.

True, but dont you think the employees are to blame too? Here's an idea, if you dont like what your employer is giving you, dont work there. Or better yet, stand up for yourselves.
Sorry but if youre too dumb to realize that your being kicked over and over, you kind of deserve it.
The butchers tried that. No more butchers at WM... Looked all over Dallas for one. No luck. Garland is too far. I did find one while working in PA though. Nice blade. Opened nicely. Didn't like the handle though...
