First and foremost everyone should be welcome and thanked for their comments and opinions.
Public forums such as BFC are important for individuals to voice their concerns and interests in the knife community.
BFC like any other commercial organization requires money to operate. That was never in question. The advertising banner ad dealers, BFC, and members ALL benefit from BFC's existence. Take away any one of those elements, a reciprocal foundation of trust, and the symbiotic nature of this forum would dissolve.

That's right, no one complains about that because those were the "rules of engagement" laid down and understood by the participating subscribers in the BFC program.
Regarding our free enterprise system, ABSOLUTELY! We do operate within this context. This type of system encourages business' to compete with each other thru offering services and /or products that may better suit the customer's requirements. When some one pays a business for a service or product then that's what should be expected and delivered.
When you pay for New York Strip we do not expect hamburger, when you pay for a Stoner .308 we do not expect a Lorcin .25, or when you pay for a Durango we do not expect a Honda Civic.
It was Mr. Turber who offered the dealers a service with banner ads, and that is what some of us elected to do. We chose to pay Mr. Turber for this offered service. Those of us who have been advertising from the first year of BFC's existence have been some of it's most ardent supporters. Understand, BFC asked for our financial support thru paid banners and many of us didjust that.
Best of all all the BFC members benefit!
Improved selection, prices, & service are all hallmarks of healthy competetion.
That to most of us, that concept is already clear and a given. Heated words, and reactionary lynchmob mentality unfortunately muddles what is really at hand.
What has been lost in these recent posts/exchanges is the underlying issue.
Once we filter thru all the convoluted rhetoric, schoolyard comments such as "whining", etc, etc, what was probably better put to the forefront and said was,
"The very nature of the service offered by BFC to its banner ads dealers have been changed. The promise of a level venue where dealers would compete only against other independent dealers, has been altered. The "referee"(BFC) is no longer a neutral entity and has "entered it's own team". In effect, what was paid for was not delivered in full, and what can we all do to insure equity amongst all the particpants involved."
One positive result that precipitated from all of these debates, is that at this point in time, we now have pledges from Spark to insure an equal playing field for the all players. If we have pledges from the Mike and Spark, who hold all the cards regarding the logistics of running this public venue, then speaking for myself, that's just what I wanted to hear.
As a business owner who wishes for his business to survive the best it can thru fair play and honest hard work, I do not think it is not too much to ask for. Myself, and I am sure some of the other dealers, simply would like to receive what we paid for and be able to have continued exposure to offer our wares...
If that is not the proper thing to expect, then I ask for advice and some sound rationalization behind my misunderstanding.
I believe every hardworking honest American understand those basic principles in this free market economy:
-Making a living thru a honest day's work to support himself and his family.
-And to get what was promised and paid for with your hard earned money.
True, this does not always occur for whatever reason, but we should all try and follow those tenets as best as we possibly can.
We ALL have a vested interest in BFC's survival. However expressing concerns does not make those individuals,
or should be instructed to
It is everyone's right to voice their dissent. I can think of better solutions to resolving a conflict than having some one tell some one else to "go away"
.
A few weeks from now this will all be but forgotten, I just hope that everyone involved can find a equitable resolution by that time.
Despite what anyone else may or may not have said EVERYONE supports BFC.
Speaking for myself I know i have already approached Mike off list, days before this ever became a topic for public scrutiny.
Perhaps it may have been best to restrict this issue to the dealers only forum, and as it now stands this should best be left to the dealers and BFC to hash out.
Regardless, the knife consumer will continue to benefit, whatever the outcome
.
