And I can't afford the real thing, especially now. Mods, please don't lock.

I know a few people here bought clones and had positive reviews, but how have those held up in the long run?

I'm talking about the original $130 VG10 carbon fiber clones, and not the cheap titanium one or the Boker knock off.

It's sad but I can't help it. I want it that bad. The 0770 looks okay, but it's just not the same. Grrrr.....

Save your money for the real deal. I just got mine yesterday and it's a beauty! I thought it was smooth out of the box but a drop of 10wt nano oil made a huge difference. Just effortless opening. I've never handled such a smooth knife.
A knock off would be cheating yourself...and others.

That's the one that I wanted, but alas I had to settle for a DLC one...it's funny actually...I lust after Hinderer knives in DLC but turn my nose up at ZTs in DLC...:p

I know, trust me. It's eating me up, but there's no way I'll have the $800 an M390 even goes for anytime soon. By the time I do have the money for them, the M390BLK I lust for will probably be well over a grand. :(

I like DLC and probably would have picked one up with that finish but something about the stonewash on this one grabbed me. ZT hit a home run with these. I can usually find an issue or two with every knife I purchase but can't find a thing wrong. The only thing I'm on the fence about is putting my own edge on with the Edge Pro. I'm struggling with the "what ifs". Should I keep it as a safe queen or sharpen it and use it. What if I find I don't like it as a user and how much will I devalue it after it's sharpened? Yeah it's a sticky issue on these forums with safe queens but there is the reality of personal economy.

I use mine...I found the defect in mine when I took it apart. The washer that the bearings ride on was soft and was starting to wear a groove in it so the blade was starting to go off center. I flipped the washer over and re-centered it so its fine...but ZT wants me to send it in for warranty repair...I don't know if I can live without it for that long.

Honestly, this is my thinking: if you can't afford it, you can't have it. If you can't afford the real thing, get a different (cheaper) knife.

I can't afford one right now either. Just because you can't or don't have something doesn't mean that you should search for a knock-off. :thumbdn:

I had enough for the M390BLK I wanted, but had a custom get completed at the same time. Literally in the next couple checks I was able to afford it, they were all gone.

Well, you can't afford it now, so that's a moot point. It doesn't matter if you can't afford a $10 knife or if you are super rich and complain about not being able to afford a $25,000 knife--the point is, if you can't buy it, you should not (in my book) just search for a knock off.

I'll keep an eye on that thanks. Right now it's just so smooth though that there can't be anything rubbing anywhere. I can't even hear the pivot after using nano oil.

I'm glad you have an opinion, but yours is not going to change mine on this particular knife. This is my grail knife, and incredibly limited production and extreme secondary market pricing make the real deal unrealistic at the moment, and likely the future. I've never spent a penny on any knock off, and have spent the original cost of the 0777 three times over on KAI products over the years.

What I will likely do is buy the clone, then a handful of KAI products to compensate and appease the knife gods. If the 0777 were still available new at cost I would have one, so don't flex those judgement muscles too hard.

Ok, whatever you want. Be warned, though, that if it is your grail, a knock off is not likely to make you happy. You will have a cheap clone, and only be further from your goal.

Never settle for a knock off, only settling should be a mid tech of a custom, like the mid tech kwaiback. Still try not to settle, but at least the knife is made by the same person.

I'll have a cheap one. A cheap one that will give me warm fuzzies until I can maybe be lucky enough to get the real thing and have outright hot flashes. If not, at least I'll have gotten a slight taste. Aside from that, a few established members here bought the clones and had fairly good opinions of them. They're the ones I want to hear from.

If you can't afford the real deal chances are you can't afford the knock off either. Get your finances in order before buying stuff you don't need. High end knives are luxury items, not necessities. For actually cutting stuff I recommend an opinel, some scissors, or a boxcutter.

All of those memberific people that love the 777 knock offs don't seem to be showing up to proclaim how great the clones are...everyone that has posted seems to have about the same view. But since you said you only want to hear from the people that like clones, I suppose you will end up with sort of a biased opinion.

What kind of backward logic made you arrive at that conclusion?
