I can't contain my 0777 lust any longer. (Clones)

I was strictly commenting on the secondary market prices. Why would someone pay $800 for a production knife that sold for $380 when a good custom is in that range?

I never said the secondary market price has anything to do with the quality of the item, and I never said anything was ZT's fault. Regardless of my thoughts about the initial price of the item, I was questioning why people would in fact pay $800 for that knife. Also, what I was commenting on had nothing to do with "safe-queens", unless I'm missing something here.

I say do what YOU want with your hard earned money and be happy. If you're not into this or other hobbies to be happy or for enjoyment then I see why folks here are getting bent out of shape. Theyre in it for the wrong reasons.

I agree, I was just looking for a logical reason behind the secondary market price of the 0777.

I am inclined to agree with you. These knives such as the 0777, at least in my opinion, offer no more performance (and in fact most of the time less performance) than a Spyderco in a good steel. On the reverse, the reasons why people (at least me) would buy a custom (the hand touches, uniqueness, unparalleled quality, materials) are also not present to the same extent.
- Have you handled a ZT0777?

- It's the same logical reason anyone pays higher secondary market prices. They want the item. They can't purchase it at the initial release price. They can afford it.

As tokerblue alluded to, it's supply and demand, strong-dog. That's the logical reason behind the secondary market price of the 0777 (or any other product or service, for that matter). Might not be a logic you care for. But whether you like it or not is complete irrelevant.

That's just it. There is no reason, other than people can and do hike the price up. There is an element of greed involved as well. Money makes the world go around. A couple years ago I was looking for a Spyderco military in S90V woth CF scales (I collect that model and have most of them), I found one for sale for $700. Absolutely ridiculous. I sent the guy an email with an offer, because he had that same knife listed for sale for over a year at the $700 mark. He declined my offer, which is fine. 6 months ago, the knife was still for sale, at $700+, I bet he still has that thing collecting dust today.

No way in hell I'm paying that much for a production knife. Some folks have more money than sense, they buy $15,000 watches, $3,000 shoes, $400 shirts/jeans, and have $1,200 monthly car payments. If they have the scratch and can afford that, more power to them. Trying to find logic in a situation where it does not apply can be a frustrating endeavor. Why would someone pay $800-$1000 for a knife that costs $380? Because they can.

No one is getting bent out of shape over it, some people love buying counterfeit items. Makes them feel like high rollers. I don't go for that sort of thing and a lot of people on here don't either. So to each his own. I don't understand how having a counterfeit item scratches the itch initiated by the desire to own the original. To those poeple I would say are "in it for the wrong reasons". In the end buy what you like. ;)

CNC pro, don't jump to conclusions. I was making a statement on the adolescent dispensing advice.

Good post, RD. The only thing I would add is that there are lots of reasons for owning a counterfeit besides wanting to feel like a high roller. And contrary to the wishful thinking of some folks, not all counterfeits are created equal. In fact, some of them are extremely well-made. And no, I don't care to elucidate further. :)

Well, good luck on the hunt OP. Sadly, this hobby is full of speculators who'll drive prices up the day things hit dealer shelves.

Back in the day I had a 0777 pre-ordered that I didn't really want anymore, but sold it to a friend at cost. Sadly he had to let that one go due to other mounting expenses.

I was referring to why they would spend $800 on the 0777 when I think we can agree a custom would be an overall better knife using the majority of our standards. I understand that they want it so they'll buy it, but why they would spend the $800 on the 0777 instead of another knife in that range is what I was asking. Can anyone who bought the 0777 at secondary market price comment?

We sufficiently off topic now so time for this one to be closed.
