I can't contain my 0777 lust any longer. (Clones)

Save for The real McCoy!I would never be happy with a fake anything knowing that I could have the real McCoy.It would drive me bonkers thinking could have ,should have ,would have......I would create more negative feelings and less happiness and enjoyment.Every time I would look at the knife it would give me negative feelings.Try saving some more money and buy a knife that you will be happy with for the rest of your life.If the fake one is the one for you, then go ahead and pull the trigger and I wish you the best with your decision...

All of those memberific people that love the 777 knock offs don't seem to be showing up to proclaim how great the clones are...everyone that has posted seems to have about the same view. But since you said you only want to hear from the people that like clones, I suppose you will end up with sort of a biased opinion.
Actually, a couple of them bought the clone before searching out the real thing to see if buying it was justified. I've made my intentions clear, so until you have to put food in front of kids (or pay any bills at all), saying just go drop a grand on a production folder that's rare as hen's teeth is easier said than done young friend.

From personal ethics standpoint, I don't buy fakes or clones. But those are personal, I don't think it says anything particularly negative about you if you don't share them. The reviews I've seen on the Kevin John style high-end clones all seem to be fairly positive from a quality standpoint. Buy what makes you happy.

It's your money, do what you think is right. But please do it quietly. Many here have strong feelings when it comes to clones.

What kind of backward logic made you arrive at that conclusion?

My logic: Paying 130$ to peel an apple or open a box is just as silly as paying 800$ when you could have got the job done for 10$. Nice knives are nice to have but way back on the list of priorities when money is tight. YMMV.

If you want a fake, get a fake.

If you want a Zero Tolerance 0777, save up and get one.
Slow down hot rod. If you're that angry I don't have the money for it, surely you could pay my mortgage next month so I can get the real thing, right?

Either way the knife won't get used. I would however like to get a feel for the design before I decide if I want to save up for the real thing. That's my house payment. Two months of range practice and qualifications. Two months of car payments. Three months of, well, you get the point.

Gotcha...

The difference between an Opinel and this clone, is the same difference as the clone to the real thing. I have plenty of user knives, some costing as much as the 0777 goes for now. This is a novelty purchase that will likely determine if I start saving for a design I've never handled that's incredibly rare and out of production.

I guess I have different views on what a knock off is. These knives are sold as clones with no markings. The Boker I would consider a knock off as it's a major brand who is taking advantage of the design with out even paying homage to the original company or designer.

You missed the word "save." It doesn't matter how long it takes you to save for something. Days, weeks, months, years, whatever. How much are these fakes that you are looking at anyway?

Anyway, I'm not angry. You seem to want a fake, so go ahead and get one. It's not a ZT 777, but if you want a fake, get one. The opinions of knife freaks do not matter if you want something.

If you want the clone because you want it, great, get it.
But if you are getting a clone as a substitute, you will not be happy and will end up getting the real thing even later.

It most definitely won't be expected to be a substitute. Even if it was actually VG10, I would place no expectation that it compares. It's a novelty purchase, but the point of this topic was to make sure they weren't at least absolute garbage.

What Boker are you talking about? Brands typically get firestormed here if they bootleg a design (like the Boker/Becker fiasco). And I sure don't remember a hot mess with the ZT fanboys regarding Boker.

PS- I think you came to the wrong place to ask advice about buying a counterfeit.

IT will not be the real thing, but if you want to hold a similar design in hand it will not hurt. Look for a used one so you dont support the new stuff if you can from those makers like KJ.
The real deal is the way to go.
My favorite knife is the real deal grail for me.
On a whim. I have one clone that is about 95% there in finish, and in design and structure. But not in it whatsoever. In a different size since I would not have bought it otherwise. Looks good and prys things and cuts electrical wire. Steel takes an amazing edge and the materials are close to amazing.
I do not wish to share what it is. I like it , but took it used for a very cheap price .
Consider it me keeping these clones off of the market for actual users.
Matt

I'll order one of the clones and let you know how it is. If it's half the knife of the original, it's still worth it.

A 130$ "novelty purchase" is BS, that kind of money will buy you a pretty good "real" knife. Or bring you closer to the real 0777.
Are you really willing to spend 130$ for a knockoff knife with mystery steel ? Might as well have a nice dinner with the wife or something.

Just my 2 cents

All my knives are users and get rode hard. This would literally be my first novelty purchase, though I would likely ease into beating on it without feeling bad or ruining a knife that seems to double in value every six months.

First, yup take out the wife. I make sure that I always put her before myself. Anyhow enough about the love. If if were a novelty I would agree. I have seen and handled these clones from other folks as well.
Sadly for a cheap price. These Chinese make KJ's are of equal quality and durability to that of many US knives ( NO I DO NOT MEAN THE ACTUAL KNIFE THEY ARE COPYING). Just generally speaking. No matter where they are made. CNC is a CNC and it makes a good product.
The whole thing scares me how much of this is out there now.

The part that disgust me the most is they can steal the whole entire design and just leave the logo and trademarks off of it.
Money hungry folks.
