I can't contain my 0777 lust any longer. (Clones)

I don't understand how $800 (or whatever the going rate is) for a production knife is worth it when an array of customs are in that same range, some would say better in every way than the 0777. Can someone help me understand this? If the person just loves the knife and it speaks to them, I get it, but is there any logical reasoning behind it?

So how much would it cost for a custom knife maker to make a exact duplicate(materials, design, everything)of the ZT777?

I'm not as hard on clones as a lot of people on here but I don't think I could ever spend that much on one. Its different if its like $20 and its a decent knife. You can try it out and use it, beat on it and see if you like the design. But if you're spending $100+ there are just so many other knives out there made by legitimate companies that are better quality without any "moral issues." I wonder if you'd be better off buying the boker "version" or a ZT 0770 and having someone make some custom scales and possibly modify the blade to make it look closer to the 0777.

A friend gave me a clone for Xmas, that she picked up at a flea market. While it's built really well and has nothing apparently wrong with it, I still couldn't ever warm up to it, because I know it's a fake. I also couldn't sell it because it's a fake. I also won't carry it because it's a fake and I have so much else that's not fakes. Just something about a fake, once you own the real stuff that makes it seem so unworthy. To me it doesn't matter if it's well made, or not. Just the fact someone ripped off a design tarnishes the knife and ruins it for me.

What knife is this?

Spot on. Very well said.

If you mean doing more than not buying rip off designs and supporting theft with my own dollars and advising against supporting that market, no I don't.

Of course there are people that think anyone who doesn't take advantage of another is an idiot.
That is also wrong no matter how it's sugar coated.

I love how a 13 year old is lecturing people to save money when he can't even legally work and he's buying and displaying a bunch of high end knives.....

Guess what buddy, I buy all of my own knives, with the exception of 4 from the PIF threads and 3 as gifts:

DFK custom--gifted by friend
BM blue Barrage--gifted by parents
ESEE 6--gifted by parents

And I own 80+ knives. I bought both of my Sebenzas, my Busse, Swamp Rat, Big Chris custom, my very rare Spydercos, ZT 350, etc.etc.etc. all with money from petsitting or my $7/week allowance. I charge $30/hour for petsitting. This week, I made $60 cash from 2 jobs.

Maybe you could ask before being so assertive and "ohh, the little kid thinks he makes all his own money. hee hee he!)

If you didn't work when you were young, well, that's your problem. My father has a stable job, and I don't have to work to provide for the family. But I do work to get money for my own use. I have 6k in a savings account (yes, all from petsitting, not parents), and I make well over 3k annually. It is true that I don't have any thing I need to buy, but that does not disqualify my advice.

For example, I cannot afford a $800 Hinderer XM-18, as I just spent quite a bit on a Busse and a Spyderco WTC. But that doesn't mean that I will just buy a $100 rip off.

I get a kick out of how you are lectured an adult on their spending habits, essentially insulted them based off of ideas about money that you have as a teenager with no real financial responsibility, and worst of all contributed literally nothing towards answering his question. Wow. Perhaps moving forward you should consider answering questions that you have some actual insight into, and maybe just treading a little more lightly.

Saving and spending over 4k on knives per year, I have a little insight into saving and spending for things... If I had other financial needs, I would save less money, and spend less on luxury items. Simple.

And at 13, I have better gramar than you. ;) So age doesn't matter as much as you think it does.

How long have you been into knives?

Off topic from the OP. as most of this thread.
But impressive kid. Most 13 year olds are way behind you.
I worked logging, farming and manufacturing from 9+
Spent it on knives, camping gear and sega games.
Internet was Dial up so I had no idea what a quality knife was. I had bucks, schrade, case and crkt until I was about 14.
Then high speed internet came along and I would actually be able to load a page in less than 15 minutes.
Anyway, enjoy it while you can. I still get an occasional toy, but I got married at 23 to a woman who is much better with money than I.
She took my hard work ethic and is moving us up fast financially. Boy do I love my woman lol.
I am locking this thread.

Here we go again not talking about the knives, but each other. Looks like people would learn after a few dozen times, it will just get the thread shut down.

Not purchasing fakes and telling other people not to either isn't doing anything to fix the issue of clones. Now, if these same people who are "intellectual property warriors" on the internet actually went out and learned IP law, then maybe they could make a difference. But they don't care enough to do that actually try and fix the issue, and yet they get all angry and butthurt when someone mentions a clone and they whine about it. I don't buy clones either, but I don't pretend to care so much that it offends me when another person is contemplating buying one.

Dude, it's not that you can't comment on saving for something, but until you can add factors like mortgages, car loans, tuition, college loan payments and the like; you just don't get it.
