I cheated with another...again.

Hey Sam I thought I saw that guy in your Avatar working as the Gate Guy at the Spyderco plant....or did I??

Yea Dave tell them how you outbid your good friend Gordy on eBay and won that sweet Buck Knife:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

I suppose anything's possible . . . but I don't look a bit like him. Thank God. :)

This is what I really look like:

That's good...might screw up that college girl thing.

Seriously though, what's the difference between the blade on the #14 and #1?

Whew. Do you want the long explanation or the short explanation? OK, long explanation it is.

If you look closely at the spine of the knife at the ricasso, you'll see that the model 1 has a finger notch cut into it (almost like a choil):

The 14 doesn't have this (the spine is straight all the way across). The 14 is also 1/2" longer.

Here's where it gets messy, though. The 14 is a full-tang knife . . . except when it isn't. it's also available in a hidden tang version so you can put handles out of things like stag and wood on it.

Gordy, you're getting your threads confused too. The pic of the 14 was in the other thread. Everybody here is probably wondering what the heck we're talking about.

I strayed - big time. My only slippie was my old 301 - a a couple of teeny ones my Dad had. I remember his Boker - a Tree Brand. He loved the CS blades, told me how well they took and held an edge - and 'grew character' (One man's rust is another's 'patina'.). LBJ was Prez. I don't know what became of his knife over a quarter of a century ago when he passed away. I mentioned missing it - and a fellow in Canada sent me a well-used one identical to my Dad's old one. I went beserk - my 172 TNT stash was quickly invested in an assortment of similar German-made Bokers & German Bulls, etc.

Nice old-style/old-world knives - and still made of carbon steel - you can watch them 'age'! I even found that everyone doesn't 'interpret' the Stockman the same way:

I am still partial to the 301 above - all I needed in my pocket for many a year - and a SS, too. I hate to think what that top one would look like after a summer weekend hiking in the Smokies.

As I strayed, I still enjoyed my last Buck buy - a $75 MSRP 347 Vantage Pro. It even fared too close to a $250+ MSRP Benchmade 635BK mini-Skirmish my wife gave me for our tenth anniversary:

I guess it's okay to stray... if they don't make 'what you want' in every style... just remember to come 'home'. Hard to top a 110, of course.

How does an existentialist order a custom 110? "Pete... make me one... with everything!"

Caffein... need caffein...

By the way, Boker is having a big 40%-off father's day sale right now, and many of their slippies are included in the sale. I'd post a link, but don't want to be accused of "deal spotting." But hey, you know where to find them.

This is a interesting and odd thread at the same time. Usually we are good about limiting talk to the Buck subjects, mostly without any correction from a mod.

But, it brings up a point. Most Buck Brothers do occasionally acquire another companies knives.

I use to wear my invisible Buck Shield everywhere I went, I wouldn't even give a swimsuit glance at another knife display. Until I picked up a old nonBuck knife out of a shoe box of knives given to me by a relative. I was touched by this knife and it's near lookalike younger brother. The remaining knives were gone thru and a couple of old european manuf. gentlemens knives were set on a shelf and the other uninteresting knives started being given away to kids and other men who need user pocketknives.

I was touched by the quality work of another time, in a knife that was intended to recieve rough duty.

TL-29test1.jpg

This old Camillus TL-29 pulled a heart string. Knowing is was made in the 40's maybe by someone thinking they were making a knife that was going into the pocket of someone risking their life to preserve freedom, made it a special knife for me. Worthy of laying in the dresser box with my 25 year old Bucks. The carbon patina is grand and it sharpens like a razor (but doesn't hold it like 420HC). I sometimes carry it as a connection to past and feel it somehow makes me a better man. I think my Bucks understand, welcome the soldier home, and forgive me.......

I have to confess, I strayed with another.
I had to have this ATS-34 trapper with awsome picked bone and acorn shield and flatgrind blades. Its a Case.

Don't feel alone there FL1963. I too am a Buck adulterer. I carry my Hartsook everyday. But at this moment, I'm also carrying the third knife down in this pic.
A Cold Steel Ti-Lite w/ VG-1 steel and titanium handle.

I hear Tammy Wynette singing the "D" word song for you two!! :)

Craig,

I've had a joking tone with all this but I started this thread with the specific intention of getting the attention of CJ, Joe, and other high level Buck employees about the demand for premium steel slippies. I would not have spent my Buck dollars on a Case or an fancy Queen if Buck would give me a slippie option in something like 154cm.

On that note there maybe something in the works along those lines. You heard anything.

I never really listen to country, I don't think I know the song.
But I'm not gonna divorce my NUMBER 1 favorite pocket knife company.

We can only continue to hint......

But probably like many of the BCCI members and others, I was selected by Buck development branch to complete a computer survey of slipjoint design ideas and make selections from many categories and ideas. I gave my opinion and added I would be glad to consult in any manner they deemed helpful. I did not vote for the Day-glow colors........

We shall continue speak of upgrades and maybe it will be so.

I need to confess my sins cause I been cheatin' again!!

I must have the attention span of a knat cause was supposed to be scrapping up cash for a sporting clays gun. :(

But this is a dream knife for me. I even got the sheath.

I don't know about the attention span of a gnat; I somehow doubt that was an "impulse" buy. Love your "gnu" knife. :)

I'll admit to a little cheating myself, but not quite with anything as cool as Gordon's new one.

I'd love to see Buck come out with some model (a 532 maybe?) with this type of blade. I've got a couple of Kershaws with the same style and it's just about my favorite blade.
