So I could sharpen them for them. Can't say I'm a fan of their chooses on knives... but to each their own! :o I got both knives sharpened up and stropped. Something I do to help out around here... 700 person town.

Boy you can really tell good/decent model knives and cheap ones! They'd loose their mind if they saw/handled my PM2 in S110V!

It would be awesome if we could all pitch in a couple bucks and square them away.

/\ Never thought of that; That would be totally awesome!

Don't think totally necessary though?

I showed them my orange Kershaw Leek with Ken onion blade earlier when I stopped by. :P

If I ever hit a huge lottery payout, I'd buy every Fresno PD/SD officer a waved Delica. Too bad for them... I rarely buy a ticket.

The buck 482 is a great American made knife that only costs 20$, if flea market stuff is what they buy, then they don't need their first good knives to be expensive. the 482 is a great solid lightweight edc option that won't fall apart and is easy to sharpen.

Are these guys that actually serve and protect the public? Or would they arrest you for having a pocket knife that the blade length was too long? You know, following orders and such.

Many people that need to carry knives in their work use cheap ones.

Most people just dont care about knives and those work just fine, and it's not like they know any better anyways.

It's up to us knife enthusiasts to gift these guys proper knives.

My thoughts too.

Those two knives are the kind that would raise alarms on police for "looking too dangerous".

If I had to "hard use" a knife everyday like a law enforcement officer then I would also carry a less expensive, but decent quality, knife. There are lots of cheaper options out there that are really nice and can take some serious abuse. Just to name a few there's the Spyderco Tenacious, Onterio Rat 1, Kershaw Cryo II, CRKT M16, etc. these are all decent sized knives that have proven themselves in the knife community. I wouldn't want to take one of my expensive "$100+" knives out and beat on it everyday. I know that's what they are made for but I'm just not one of those guys that does that. My nice stuff gets carried and played with but if the rare occasion arises that some tough cutting needs done then my cheapos come out for that. The most my nice knives get to do is cut a tag off of a new shirt and shave up some phone book paper.

Man, police here don't even carry knives! They think knife are more evil than gun somehow

If their precinct gets involved in contracts with the makers of cheap knives just so they'll have a cutting instrument, they'd have good reason to be thinking that. You get bitten by junk but can't identify junk, you tend to get wary.

As an infantryman in Mosul (03-04), my go to knife was a Microtech D/A Socom. I think my day to day was a bit more "hard use" than police work. ;)

If it can cut nylon cuffs apart, and open up the occasional package, I'm sure they're good to go.
They (usually) have a lot of go-to items before a knife would come into play (gun, taser, baton, flashlight, weighted gloves, for starters).

And being gun owners, Ill bet they know the knives they have are nothing great.

Actually I already face to face talked to the police chief here about the iowa statutes.... there is NO length limits on what you carry. You can even EDC a machette "concealed" in public if you want without a license per what the police chief told me! :) :) :)

He'd actually been reading the exact same paragraphs on that statue the day before.

They always carry tasers, no sense in shooting a local unless necessary. Heck everyone knows everyone around here. They told me their biggest concern was if they lost the knife; they could easily replace them since they have to pay for the knives out of their own money. They said they always carry a knife in case they need to cut seat belts to help get someone out of a wreck.

They probably buy a new knife every month. I can't believe you actually sharpened them instead of them just chucking them and getting new ones.
