I disarmed the local police department of their knives!

The cops around here (Douglas County Sherriff and Castle Rock PD) are pretty knife savvy. Spyderco Police models, Ka-Bar TDI and a few Benchmade. Couple of them even have autos. A number of them go to the same gym I do, and we talked duty knives. Showed my Protech Emerson auto to a few, and the general comment was "Cool", even though its "illegal" to carry an auto.

Something that I've noticed while watching cops is that a lot of cops carry spyderco's, the first time I saw a spyderco was on cops when a cop had to free ( so he could properly imprison ) a crook who had been hogtied by an old lady.

I love US made steel as much as the next guy, but a cheap Kershaw import is probably the way to go for a beat cop. One of the Emerson collabs if they fancy themselves as "hi speed"

I worked for Armored Transit Systems for a few years. They didn't want us to carry knives. I carried a folding utility knife, it was cheap and I didn't care to much if I dropped it at a stop or left it in the truck.

This is true. When my wife was in labor I locked my keys in my car while it was running (don't ask) all I had on me was a spyderco police and wife was in labor . I was trying to pry window out with the Spyderco when the cops pulled up to help (phone was also in car) They all noticed the Spyderco police and committed on it . Tried to give the one cop the knife for helping me but he said he would of gotten into trouble.

Small town cops are different than cops in the larger cities . I was sitting on my front porch about 4 years ago cleaning an assault rifle and had a 1911 beside it to clean next.

Cops roll up and I think my neighbors called the law on me for the guns. They get out and one says is that a kimber ? I said yes and he quoted the model and insaid yes it is . He said do you miND and held his hand out . He fondled it for a minute ,then handed it to the other cop. We talked guns for a minute and off they went. Turns out he had the same gun on law away as the one I was about to clean and he wanted to look at it and show his buddy

Since then though when I see my local cops we talk about gear or if I'm outside they will stop and talk to me about gear.

Most police aren't gun/knife/gear people.

Couldn't agree more. Even some high speed swat super cop gi joe looking dudes rock UTG rails and knock off slings. I noticed it even more in the Army, around 1 out of 100 guys had a pocket knife above M-tech tier.

You actually paid the 4000$ for a select fire rifle ? ( I'm assuming you live in the US )
how do you afford the ammo consumption ?

Sign me up! Finding someone stupid enough to sell a select fire rifle for $4,000 in 2016 would be like seeing a herd of unicorns. God bless the NFA

What I want to know is . . . what knife was the old lady packin' ? ? ?
She sounds pretty hip.

If I had to buy my own knife for my work I'd buy a decent one and take the cost as a tax deduction. If lost on the job, buy another one. So long you're not trying to deduct a custom safe queen I don't thing the IRS can challenge it. No need to pay more to the government which is too often casual about how it spends hard earned tax dollars.

I gave one of the four officers in my town a Leek when I noticed he didn't carry a knife.

Three weeks later I had to sharpen it after he stuck it into a car cigarette lighter socket - taking a nice chunk out of the blade and tip. He never would tell me why he did that but promised not to do it again.

But it says police on it:D, that has to be the appropriate knife. I bet they were easy to sharpen.

So I could sharpen them for them. Can't say I'm a fan of their chooses on knives... but to each their own! :o I got both knives sharpened up and stropped. Something I do to help out around here... 700 person town.

Boy you can really tell good/decent model knives and cheap ones! They'd loose their mind if they saw/handled my PM2 in S110V!

Fixed that for ya.

Most of the cops I know are not that terribly interested in knives. Many of them carry them, they are just not that picky about it. The quality of knife seems to improve with those cops that are gun enthusiast. They tend to buy more quality gear and usually have a Spyderco or Benchmade. Unfortunately I haven't seen anything more exotic than that on the street other than an occasional Emerson. I have even had one guy argue that his Chinese flea market "police" special was better than my Benchmade 710 because it had a flipper, seatbelt cutter, and a glass breaker. I didn't have the heart to argue with him.

There are quite a few folks who gift nice folders to deployed soldiers and young law-enforcement officers.
