I don't get it..............

That's it. I'm selling all my Busses on eBay so I can buy a Barrett.

Once again. Someone should start a new trend and sell me a SHBM for say....$347.
I'll pay shipping of course. :) (just kidding mods)

.

I'm not trying to bust the guys chops, but you can order a black magnum canvas handle with a OD green blade direct from Busse for $327 + shipping (around $10) and about a two week wait, but there is a guy on the exchange that is asking $427 for one!!! I just don't get it!

.

I alluded to that in his thread and got warned. lame. who's gonna pay that kind of a markup on something available?

Yes, the mods will typically catch that every time and give out a warning. You just have to ignore funny stuff like that, and start an entertaining thread about it here.

For some knives, I do see paying a bit extra to get the knife in your hands immediately. Maybe an extra $30?. If I was about to deploy overseas, or go on a sweet hiking camping trip where I was sure to want to have a minty new piece of Infi to use (and I did not already have some choices) I would pay a bit of a mark up to get it sooner. But not enough that I could have waited a few weeks, and scored a very nice sheath to go with it made by a master sheath maker.

Hopefully I don't get flamed for this, but I don't really see whats wrong with this guy's asking price. Maybe he's just giving himself some wiggle room to negotiate a lower price? If you don't like the price, either ask for a cheaper one, or wait for the seller to lower it if it is not selling. It's as easy as that. IMO, sabotaging someone's FS thread is not cool!:thumbdn:

So what if the knife is still available straight from Busse and he's asking for a $100 premium on top of what he paid. This isn't any different from the many other knives up for sale right now that are selling for a premium.

I wonder how much longer this will happen on the Exchange. Jerry has been spoiling us - gone are the "2 weeks" waits.

As of late, they've taken orders and handed out NMFBMs, Hacks, and now the NMSFNO in less than 6 months time. They also managed to produce a boatload of customs for Knob Creek and Blade and the subsequent Ganzas - and deliver on those as well. And the year isn't even over yet!

Other than our international friends, everyone seems to be getting their blades in a timely fashion. No one has had time to complain about the wait in ages!!

Right now I personally wouldn't be buying extras with anticipation of making much of a profit on them.

IMO, huge markups will be a thing of the past (except on older/rare models). You nailed it right on the head concerning the amount of INFI they are putting out. I'm sure Jerry noticed the demand his knives were commanding on the secondary market, so it only makes sense that he would up production, shifting sales straight to the source.

Maybe not.

I bet the orders on new knives is WAY DOWN. Why would I put my capital out to buy four to six SFNOs when I know I can get them off the exchange any time in the future at cost or less?

My point is just that the motivation to get a Busse knife as they come out is just gone.... well unless the secondary market is very strong and runs mark-up of at least 15-25%.

True, I didn't consider that. So playing off what you said, since the motivation to by multiples has gone down, that could be the reason why so many models are being released in such a short time span. People are purchasing fewer amounts of each model, so you make up for it by offering more.

Going by your reasoning or mine, I think newer models won't sell much over their original cost on the secondary market. Perhaps the current state of our economy has something to do with it. Myself, it hasn't really affected me, however just seeing how bad it's getting for other people has caused me to be more conservative with my spending in order to save more.

On the flip side.... the economy is well looking like 1929 and so it may be that the knives that are produced now will be very hard to come by in the future since few were ordered and therefore made due to lack of orders.

This is just random thoughts on my part in thinking of all the sides to this story. ;)

I can picture it now, next year NMSFNO's will be selling for their weight in silver (or maybe gold) next year on the exchange. Or perhaps for a few 50 lb. bags of rice and beans, lol. Looking back at this then, $427 will seem like a bargain!;):p

AGREED!!!

I'd almost pay what was asked to get a Busse or even a Scrapyard... Seems us internationals are not welcome to purchase.
And here I was thinking the economy was in trouble...

What problems are you experiencing buying internationally?
