I Don't Get the Para 3...

The PM2 always seemed to large as an EDC for "me". For others sure,,,but I am very pleased with my new Para3 and being "Made in America" makes it even that more special.

It sits happily in my pocket right now. My first compression lock.

Thanks to Spyderco for giving us all so many choices to debate and buy, use and admire.

Merci to Sal and Eric!

Handle to blade ratio is a looks thing, not a performance thing.

I think from the consumer's perspective, its also a performance thing. That is, getting as much blade as possible from a given carry size. I think you worked some kind of dark magic on the Caly 3.5, for example, in that it seems to have a blade longer than the scales.

I m a big PM2 fan. I thought that Spyderco already had good options with 3 inch and below blades. .Native 5, Delica, Sage, and others.
Fortunately I don t live in an area with a 3 inch size restriction on blade size. I ll stick with about 3.5 -4.0 inch blades.

I get the Para 3, but I'm not getting one... :p

The PM2 fits my hand like a glove, and I have a variety of 3 inchers already.

Love mine!

It's my opinion that the Para 2 has always had a short blade compared to it's handle. Never really bothered me that much.

It is one of the few knives that I purchased a second time after foolishly trading one off.

By my math, the blade to handle ratios on the PM2 and PM 3 are pretty darn close.

Infraction!!! ^
:D

Indeed. Burn the heretic. ;):D

Joking aside, though I like the paramilitary and fully understand its large appeal, it is fairly far down the list of my most carried knives. The Stretch, Delica, Pacific Salt, Military, (and currently the Spydiechef) all see more actual use and pocket time. I haven't had a chance to handle the pm3 yet but it looks like an interesting design. I'm sure I'll have to try one soon. :D

It's not for me and I'll probably never own one. But most people like it for its size- they either can't have or don't want over a 3" blade.

The PM2 is the smallest I ever carry. One reason I carry larger knives is to get a larger handle so I can hang onto it and actually do work, so I can understand a larger handle on the PM3. Handle to blade ratio means nothing to me.

I've never really understood the blade/handle ratio thing and why it matters so much for some people. I've never encountered a situation where the length of blade I was carrying hindered my use. My pm2 is one of my favorite edc knives and I'm looking forward to my pm3.

My sister-in-law calls them "little big knives" and Spyderco does it so well. One look at the Dodo or Lava and you'd think they were too small or never work but they are both awesome. I'm sure the Para 3 works just as well.

Hey all, I don't frequent the spyderco forum, but I'm very curious about the para3. At this point, I'm not a huge a fan. I think there are other spyderco models that I would prefer over the para3. It seems more of a novelty to me. The pm2 is a pretty fantastic knife, but I don't think I would like it as much if we're scaled down. I haven't had the opportunity to handle one yet, so my opinion might change.

I think a large handle on a small blade may just be fine. I'm more concerned over the closed dimensions. It seems really deep from spine to back when closed. Sometimes I don't carry a knife much because it leaves no room in my pocket.

I'm a big PM2 aficionado, appreciate the shape, length and design of blade. It's my usual EDC and I've got or had great blades for carry.

The 3 inch blade that I carry is the Sage 2. Phenomenal design! I got one in a trade for an Atlantic Salt with some cash. One of the best trades I've ever done.

The PM3... maybe for some, not my cup of tea.

The pm3 is a great knife. I really like the compactness of it. The blade stock is similar thickness to the pm2 but shorter so it feels tougher to me as the tip isn't as thin. I have size lg hands and the handle fits well. It is a different knife than the pm2. I didn't think I would get one but after reading people's reactions to it and seeing pictures I changed my mind. I carry the delica a lot for work but I've accidentally bent the blade, I don't think that would happen with this. I still use the Delica but am more careful with it. The pm3 feels like "just enough" knife, especially because I can get a full grip on it. I would encourage those who don't think they like it to at least check one out at a store in the future.

Great comments...thanks for taking the time to respond. Thank you too for the warm welcome!

Check out the video from the SHOT Show. Eric does a wonderful job explaining the Para 3.
