I Don't Get the Para 3...

I bought a Para 3 and sold it the same day it came in. Not because it was a bad knife or a bad design. I would say that it is a great knife/design. I sold it because I don't particularly have an issue with the Para 2's size; I like the size a lot actually. When it comes to having a smaller knife with a blade length the size of the Para 3 I like the Native 5 so much more. :)

As Sal said, some prefer a smaller knife. And I'm in that camp.

I'm in that smaller-knife camp, but I think the PM3's spydie hole is too big for the knife, also the lanyard hole takes up significant real estate (a la nick shabazz). I like everything else on it.

I agree about holes. I prefer the smaller <.5" opening hole like on the native 5, and could do without the lanyard one.

How does the PM3 handle ergos feel in comparison to the Manix 2? Anyone have a comparison shot?

I've never had a PM2 as I just found the Manix 2 to be near perfect. I did try out the Sage 3, but the handle height, or something, just made it feel off imo. So Im assuming the Sage 5 would be same.

I'm toying with the idea of picking up a PM2 or 3. My thing is if I get the PM3 first, then I will still have never owned a PM2. As a broke non-collector this presents a serious issue. :D.

"If there's a will...^
Try as many as you can.
My fav is still the Para1.

The handle on the Sage 3 is taller than the other Sage models.

I carry a Millie... have for years and years... (big paws and no stupid knife laws)

I have the PM2 line (several of each) just because....

I will have the Para3 line as well (Spyderco makes it... I buy it... and try to hide it from my wife...)

I like the design. But I don't understand why the blade has to be thicker than PM2.
Only if it is at 0.118" like Stretch 2 or even thinner ......

The PM 2 is one of my all time favorite knives. I can buy any knife I want. I chose the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 but always liked the Dragonfly and Delica because they were small, light, and use of quality steel. Even though I liked them, I didn't want to give up the compression lock or stiff construction. Small knives can flex a little bit more than I want. Now Spyderco has given me a new design with the qualities I appreciate in the PM2 but in a Delica class package. I also prefer S30v over VG10 but 52100, CTS XHP, and M4 would be even better. If Spyderco pushed the envelope and maxed out the HRC the way a custom maker would, they could redefine the production knife space. This is the next new thing. Its inevitable. We've tried so many steels, now its time to try different HRC's of the best of those steels. I can't wait :-)

Despite what the specs say, the Para 3 doesn't actually have a thicker blade than the PM2. They're both .145". I would have preferred the Para 3 to have a thinner blade and to be a scaled down overall version of the PM2. Apparently, Spyderco had their sights set on simply making a shorter PM2 and that's exactly what they did. Now that I have one I can say that it is a nice knife. If you want something similar with a thinner blade I suggest you look at the Sage 5.

I'm definitely in the 3" camp as well, and will probably pick up a PM3 sooner or later. (I think I'll wait for an interesting sprint run or something though.)

I can carry any size folder I want, but I find that I do 99% of my knife work with the tip and first inch or so of the blade, and a shorter blade means better control of that part.

You sir, are definitely a knife user.

i own just three PM2's,i really got them because of its popularity!and it turns out,its a fine made knife that fits the human hand very well, but i admit i just don't carry it that much, mostly because it takes up so much realestate in pocket, and find the smaller 3 and under best for personal carry,so i think that the para 3 was somewhat overdo in my case!turns out that my manix 2 gets about the same amount of carry time is my PM2,hardly none, just is to big for me to carry day to day)so i'm going to give the para 3 a try and feel its going to be the right size for me,sometimes it takes spyderco a little time to get it right!i think this is one of these moment's in time.

I'm fairly old but remember an old timer saying... There's lures that catch fish, and there's lures that catch fishermen.

You are right about Sage 5. Smaller, thinner, and with the compression lock. Thanks.

I am down for a Para 3. Just need to free up some funds first.

If it handles like my Native 5, then it's going to be a monster at the warehouse.

I think the PM3 will be good for some
The PM platform is a great user platform
The chili and blade/handle ratio are actually what make the PM such a great user since it offer plenty of full hand grip options.
One may find this it optimal but actually IMHO that is what make the PM a PM :)

For me I prefer thé PM2 since I prefer it's made length for the tasks it can take
I favor the sage series for smaller , more "office/urban" EDC

But as the sage series doesn't get sprint runs as the PM série does, I am sure the PM3 will catch the interest of more than a few ;)

I love the pm2 but they are slightly to large to comfortably carry in some of my pockets. The 3 although only slightly smaller is a better fit for me. And I love the compression lock.

My one complaint is the clip location. The lanyard hole makes the clip location look off to me and makes the knife ride a bit high in the pocket. I would have liked no lanyard hole and the clip placed in the holes spot. But there are good deep carry clips out that will make it a non issue.
