Ontario Knife Company announces the acquisition of Ranger Knives

Franklinville, NY- Ontario Knife Company announced the acquisition of Ranger Knives assets; Blue Earth, MN at the 2008 Blade Show, Atlanta GA.

Ontario Knife Company and Ranger Knives are two industry leaders of American made fine edged products for the military, tactical and commercial markets. Existing and new Justin Gingrich designs will be manufactured and sold under the “OKC Ranger Series ™” from it’s facility in Franklinville, NY.

Nick Trbovich Jr., President of Ontario Knife Company stated, “Justin will be a great addition to the OKC team for many years to come. We are excited about his continued interest and future involvement in expanding the OKC Ranger Series ™, development of new products, participation in marketing efforts and providing input on production and quality”. Trbovich added, Ontario Knife Company continues to aggressively identify and pursue all business opportunities that add value to Ontario Knife Company and our customers”. Ontario Knife Company is one of America’s Oldest Knife Companies.

Justin Gingrich, President of Ranger Knives commented “I am very pleased that two great American knife companies can come together for the betterment of the industry. I am very excited and look forward to seeing the product line and business relationship continues to grow. I am confident that Ontario Knife Company will produce both the existing and new products with the same quality and attention to detail that Ranger Knives is known for.’

I just hope what happened with RAT won't happen again.

I mean, on one side I agree with the Ontario boycott.

But on the other, I really like Ranger knives and dealing with Justin is just great.

Sounds to me like the same thing can't happen that Mike and Jeff dealt with. Only reason I say that is seems to me like they bought Ranger knives, not just a contract.

Which if that is the case, means corporate decisions where money is always the bottom line. I personally say that if someone wants a Ranger knife they better get it from existing inventory before Ontario starts making them

Wow, I had liked Ranger knives but now I'm a little worried. Existing stock sounds like a good idea right now.

I wonder if they'll shift production to NY or leave it in MN?

I am sure he made good money off the deal.

So much for Ranger knives.

Sums it up pretty good. I read a small post by Justin at 'that other place', and he seemed excited about the prospect of being able to produce some new designs, etc. Which is good, until they're produced in thailand, QC fails, and there's never again a chance at a personalized/custom Ranger.

I'm gonna go look for a used RD9 now...

There is very little existing stock. He is out of all the RDs. He was going to start a new batch when he got back from blade. We will ahve to wait and see what happens. I'm bummed out.

Yep I agree.
He's happy for the moment until he's pushed out. Like with any corp buy it's all good in the honeymoon period until the new company decides it's had enough.

Hopefully for Justin he will be able to create new designs and QA will remain high. Just not likely from the OKC track record.

Now look for Ontario to try and trademark "Ranger" and send threat letters to the US Army, the NYC hockey club, the MLB team outside of Dallas, the Scottish Premier League team in Glasgow, and the Quebec Provincial Government, since ranger means boot, and the word is imported into English.:D

I got to admit I was bummed when I heard. I'm glad I was able to purchase a couple Rangers before the change. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next.

I hope for that Ontario trys to learn from the mistakes they made and give this new line the QC it deserves but I'm not betting on it. From what we have heard about the recent RAT knives with QC problems I'm really wondering if this isnt a train wreck in the makeing.

Well mark them of my list......Dang,I almost snagged a RD6 with orange scales and passed on it.... I guess Ontario needs fresh meat,Ranger has a good following and alot of people are still not aware of Ontario's mess with RAT ,Hopefully Ontario will learn a leason..but if Ontario purchased the Ranger brand, they can do what they want...Interesting ????

I have a good mind to get on Brigade QM and snatch up another RD-7 before they stop having great quality control.
