I don't like the new production protocol.

DPris,

For someone who doesn't mean to be offending, you missed your mark. I take offense to most of your post. I think Cobalt's comment about them being commonly available was misconstrued. There are tons of Busse knives on the secondary market at any given time. They are not only traded among a select group of collectors or anything like that. That is ridiculous. I want the FBM as bad as the next guy, maybe worse. Believe me there is no elite group that gets a jump on things before the rest of the world, test teams and the like excluded. For example, Jerry doesn't treat the guys who buy a majority of their blades directly from the factory any better than those who have amassed a collection prim, arily from the secondary market. If that doesn't show we are all on equal ground, all equally waiting for that one special model that floats our boat, I sure as heck don't know what does. So this talk about a Busse Country Club is rubbish and I think it points to a bitterness about something more than just not being able to buy a FBM right now. ...
Very well said PG, especially the last line I show quoted above! Knowing Cobalt from reading his posts, I did not take his post all that seriously. I have acquired 90% of my Busses on the secondary market, and have had a lot of fun doing it. I participate in the forum here to the extent that I have time to do so, and much of that is just reading the threads to stay informed and for general enjoyment. There is a lot of humor in the forum, and I see much of it as added value.

Well, that pretty much makes it into a club for special people, doesn't it?
The guy who doesn't want to join the club, doesn't want to play with the inside jokes, doesn't give a hoot about collecting or "retained value" and just wants a good tool or two apparently has no place in the general scheme of things. If that's the attitude with Busse products, INFI is not the only good steel in the country, and my first Busse is my last.
Sorry, don't mean to be offensive. I was reading through this thread & intending to keep out. I genuinely do not mean to be insulting to anybody here, but Cobalt's comment there was the last straw.
I have no interest in joining the Busse Country Club For Exclusive Pigs. I want a knife I can depend on, not a trophy safe queen to give me a feeling of superiority over the lesser peasants.
I'm gone. The sound you hear is the door not hitting me on the butt on the way out.
Best New Year Wishes to everybody.

DPris, if you choose not to participate, then fine, but I feel your post above shows your lack of knowledge about the BF Busse forum and the members who participate here. You should read more of the threads to get to know the members, and then maybe you will not take some of the stuff so seriously. I do not agree with everything said in the forum, but I try to refrain from personal attacks, either individually or as a whole.

Gene

p.s., Can I PLEASE be part of the inner circle now? ;) :D

There was indeed a Vegas contest that a certain idahoggette won a certain folding knife.

The Hogs are not part of an elite club. We just happen to all share an obsession. Any specials at shows or in contests aren't won because we are part of a club. It's simply because we participate and get lucky. Anyone can take part in the fun and games. The customs sold at Blade mostly went to porkers. Want to know why? Because we showed up. I drove to Atlanta from Ohio because I have a passion for knives. Did I get any of the customs? Nope. I went with virtually no money. Every Busse I have could have been purchased by someone else. I just happened to get there first. It has little to do with being part of this group. I say little only because when you do go to the shows or start really talking to those that are considered hogs you find that at times you're able to talk them out of blades that they either haven't posted for sale yet or didn't realize they wanted to sell. ;) :D These deals and sales could be between anyone but if you aren't around and we're selling something, we won't think to ask you if you're interested in buying.
One reason it's good to pay attention to the forums is you can see what people like or get reviews on blades. It makes you want them as well. I've made several buys just after someone says they were thinking about getting rid of something. I simply sent an email and poof, I have a new knife en route. Same thing goes if you're thinking of dumping something. There are no sales on this forum but if I had multiples of something and posted a pic you might be inclined to send an email seeing if I might want to lighten my collection by one. (Anythings possible) Another benefit to this is we as a group of friends watch out for each other. I talked to a fellow forumite today. He liked my Active Duty. If I see one for sale he will get an email from me letting him know there's one for sale. That's really as far as it goes for a "club". Just a bunch of people that like the same thing. We joke and pick on each other but what group of like minded people don't have inside jokes. Just come and join in and you'll be "inside" just like anyone can.
This may be my longest post ever.

C'mon Paradiggum, let's face it just admit we have our secret society. The underground where all Busse knives go. It is called the United Busse Intelligence Technology Conglomerate House, U.B.I.T.C.H.

we are all members. Myself and Skunk are President and VP and ThatHamguy is our acronym.

L8R Peasant! Oh and take the FREAKING RATS with you!!:p

I think that a year-round model is a pretty good idea. I would suggest something like the SFNO, a good compromise between the big and the small. Idealy, it would be an "innexpensive" model like the AD, SFNO, AS or something easy to manufacture.

Of course, I don't even know if this is possible.

:D

hell no. Make everyone wait like we do.

As mick strider would say, lick my....ooops wrong forum.

Wow.. I 've spent the morning ready this thread and I still don't get it! Not sure I want to. It's the New Year guys, I think we need to lighten up a bit and enjoy the fun of this forum and the new Fatty SHBA I gave myself for Christmas. Ok, you might not be able to enjoy my Fatty SHBA but I sure am! :D

Happy New Year All !!!!!

Hmm, I would think that if the current schedule and changes had an adverse effect on Busse as a company, it would have been changed long before now.

Yes, we all have to wait for new models, and there are some I want that should have been released by now according to the original schedule, but am I whining about it, no.

They will happen.

How about the models that have been released which were not on the schedule have been very well received by the buying public?

You didn't like them and didn't buy them, fine. Your choice. This is America, and you have that option. Why whine about it??

Man, you sound like Veruca or Violet, I can't remember which whiney girl said it in Willy Wonka, "I want it,and I want it now!!"

DPris, you sound pretty thin skinned to me. Maybe better you don't play here. Hogs need to be a bit tougher, and understand the context comments are made in.

Personally, I can't wait to see what 2006 brings us. I think Jerry will have some wild and wonderful things.

You seem pretty tweaked that you haven't been able to get a FBM yet and stated that you bought something else instead. Out of curiosity, what did you get that would equal a FBM? Seriously, is there anything else made by anyone that even comes close? I'm not being a smart ass, I'm really just curious.

this reminds me of a quote "the <foo> you use the most, is the <foo> you can get your hands on and carry"... in other words, it doesn't matter how good one thing is, how superior it is, and so on... if you cannot obtain one, it does you no good. especially for the users. the collectors/speculators/safe-queens are a slightly different focus imho.

last year, a guy pulls up next to me as i'm getting out of my nearly 9 year old car. he has a new model from the sister company. a lot of technology/etc has trickled down in those years from my fully loaded version, to his fairly tricked out version. he says "hey, how do you feel having paid nearly $8-9k MORE than my car here cost me, especially for feature <foo>?" i laughed and said "well, the the nearly 9 years i've had these features working for me, and all the years you must've waited, just to save $1k a year, pretty damn fine" :)

to close my thought on this, a few years ago, i had a big wad o cash, and wanted a really Really REALLY good knife. i shopped around, and found out that i had to wait AGES to get what i lusted for. had i known, i would've ordered early and done so, but camping expeditions wait for no man, so i "settled" and bought a pretty good big blade. used it hard. left me with some money left over, so i bought something else. also am using that hard. and so on. given good modern tools and materials, you have to REALLY do extreme and abusive things to have a knife fail you in the "great beyond".

naturally, i seem to also have the great woe (and/or eye) to buy blades that are collectibles or become so, and in one or two cases have been urged to put them aside and get something else - i see folx in the buy/sell who have the same problems :) i've also seen a lot of busses for sale in the past months, but have the current problem of not affording them. some are great prices. some are kinda in the range of "you've got to be KIDDING me" *grin* - i was at a show last year or so, and someone HAD a real life BM, and wanted LARGE money for it. very very large. too large. i didn't have a price sheet on me (does such a thing exist for the busse breeds?) but it did occur to me based on prior sales i've seen here, i could've picked up several nice blades from y'all. even safe queens :)

stay sharp, buy smart, buy s-mart,

bladite
