I drove my first Harley today...tell us about your first time

Me? V-4 Honda Magna. I rode it down to Atlanta for Blade after circling thru the Smokies and visiting friends and my folks.

Cool ride, but how do you get a 19' sea kayak on that thing? Pics please...

See, there is this little portage cart and then I take some duct tape... :p

People add trailer hitches to Valkries and Gold wings!!

Just put a hitch and then get a super light weight trailer and you are set! I promise a hard cross wind on a light weight trailer and kayak won't blow you off the road and kill you instantly! Honest.

But the BIG QUESTION is....Would KH's coming collection of Harley's rival his collection of Busse's? Now there is something to think about folks.

I caught the HOG bug Looong before the Busse Bug, and posting pics of my HOG's would be, well a very long thread indeed. KH all I can say is Live to Ride and Ride to Live brother, Steel is Steel whether it is in your hand or saddled up beneath ya, so pop the clutch and crack the throttle, and stay vertical brotha, I foresee a lot of miles ahead of ya.....NO REGRETS!

thanks brutha thats good:cool:

Well, that is where the Harley excels. You don't have to ride balls to the walls and can relax and enjoy.

What I want is something more sportsterish.

Good upright riding position, still decent speed, and handling.

If I had lots of extra cash to lay down right now, I would go for an Exile bike.

They also make a mean Trike for when you get too old to ride the bike.

Would this be slow enough Trev. :D

Lmao ! :eek::D

My first ride was probably before I can remember Dad had a big, big Honda K (I think that was what it was called). We both loved to ride. I got an XR 80 dirt bike when I was in middle school. Next was the Honda Rebel 250. When I graduated college, I bought a Honda Shadow VLX deluxe. Sold the Shadow to finance the HoneyMoon in the Bahamas. Wife won't ride. Dad always wanted a Harley & I've inherited the dream, sort of, but probably not very realistic.

I had been a motorcycle rider for a lot of years, mostly dirt bikes starting when I was 12 or so... then one day my Bro-in-law asked me to drive his fatboy from the shop, to his home for him. I'd always liked the sound of Hogs and well.... it was about 45 degrees that day but I was in love (although frozen)..... within 6 months I had my first Harley, a brand spankin new 2003 (100th yr) Black Road King Classic. I put 8500 miles on that bad boy (My plate said BADNUF).... including a trip to Sturgis with my Brother in law and Brother, all in 4 months time. That fall, I learned of a chance to do some crazy travel/work/mostly play..... in RUSSIA.... so I packed up my stiff and moved.... after selling my HD to my brother.

I still miss the HD but would not trade that time in my life for anything (the Russia thing).

vrooom vrooooooom!

The first time I ever rode a Harley was when I thought I wanted to buy one. That ride convinced me that there are far better motorcycles for far less money. I ended up buying a BMW 1100GS that I rode on tour after tour after tour. My riding partner at the time had a Harley. Every time his bike broke down on a tour I'd buy a shirt from the Harley dealership that helped him fix it. I've got a lot of Harley shirts. I've also nearly been hit by Harley parts on the road as they vibrated off my friend's bike.

Later in life I decided I wanted a cruiser and ended up with a Honda Valkyrie Interstate. Now THAT is an awesome bike.

I'm having a hard time deciding between that or a ST1300. I do REALLY like the Valkyrie. Where are the pics??? :D

I can tell you that riding the Valkrie is a much different experience from a cruiser V-twin.

Tons of power, the tire smoking kind. They are much wider in the body though!

If I remember correctly, you also give up some Mpg with the 6 banger.

I agree with you. Honestly, I really dislike harleys. I don't like what they represent... selling an image with no substance at all behind it. Harleys are famous for being Harleys... not for being fast, comfortable, best handling, fuel efficient, reliable, or powerful. As a motorcycle, they're not really good at anything. Most everything else with that level of notoriety is known for SOMETHING. Busse is tough, Ferrari is fast, NASA is smart, etc. But Harleys have nothing. That seems wrong to me, something is that famous for selling an image.. just don't like it. It's so famous that it's the first concept that comes to mind when the word motorcycle is uttered in America for newbies and the uninitiated, when in reality it's literally totally inferior in just about every measureable way...

There.. I fixed that for you. ha ha

I like Harleys, but I also think Jap Crap are very good running/lasting bikes. They just loose the resale value almost the second you roll off the show floor. Harleys hold their value a lot better... and hey, they are mostly American made... we should try and keep at least some money in America! :)

I like all bikes, but especially Harley's - There are other faster, smoother, less expensive bikes available, but I have never had any reliability issues with mine.

Harley is an American Icon, a classic - How many Jap bikes that are over 20 years old do you see out on the road? Hmmm :D

I started out on a mini bike when I was 5, moved to a Hodaka at 7, rode my Dad's Triumph Trophy 250 on the trails when I was 10, moved up to a 350 Bighorn Kawasaki at 13 and rode it until I graduated HS. Bought a 93 Fat Boy after a long period of being without a bike, then a 95 Road King, and now ride a 2003 Road King.:cool:

It doesn't matter what you ride - just get out and ride ;)

Thought I'd add my baby to the thread. I rode dirt bikes as a kid and raced as a teenager until I grew old enough that healing took too long. My first Harley belonged to by brother, a beautiful Fat Boy he let me ride. It was many years later that I bought one of my own. My current bike is my second and last Harley. I love this scooter and can't imagine riding another...ever.

Nice Street Glide! I have an 08 in Crimson Red. The six speed, electronic throttle and 96...1587cc is fast. I was on a 1998 Springer with an EVO.:D

I started off on Dirt bikes and got my first motorcycle a Suzuki Marauder many years ago. Then came the Vstrom and a GSXR 1000 (which I promptly got rid of as I was going to kill myself on it). Right now I have a Victory Vegas (100 CUI 1600 CC's 6 speeds). I LOVE this bike and its so much fun to ride. The 6th gear sure is nice when your cruisin the HWY.

I had one of the early 92 cu in Victorys. It was fast, good handling, and had a wonderful sound. Unfortunately, getting it serviced where I live was a problem, so I got a Road King. The Victory is another great American motorcycle, even if it is a new brand. As for Japanese motorcycles, I have owned over 20 of them. They are engineering masterpieces. The Honda Gold Wing is probably the finest touring bike in the world, although BMW owners would dispute that. Harleys are more than just image, though. A Harley has a certain feel that I just love, and feeling good is really what motorcyles are all about. I am just glad that Harleys are more reliable now. The hard core H-D riders enjoy working on them as much as riding the old ones. Not me. If Harley had not improved their machines, I would still be riding Hondas. In the wind since 1963.

congrats KH, they are fun huh!!!

These are going to be alittle slower than mine T. Just not sure how much you've slowed down or how drunk you are at the time. You certainly won't have far to fall either way.:D

Once upon a time, a Prince asked a beautiful Princess... "Will you marry me?"?

The Princess said "NO!"?

And the Prince lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles
And went fishing and hunting and played golf
And dated women half his age and drank beer and scotch
And had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up .

The end
