I'm sorry, but carrying a butterfly knife as an "EDC" is just douchebaggery of the highest order.
I'm still trying to understand the ignorance of this comment. I carry, edc, and use as large or larger, more murdery looking fixed blades and folders on a daily basis. No one cares.

Perhaps it is were you live. Here in pa, going the places I go, so long as what I have is legal, no one cares at all. If anything, I've had good conversations with folks about the knife I'm using.

You should try carrying one because you'd probably change that opinion. Like others have said... you don't have to flip it to open it.

My benchmade 51 balisong frequently falls in my rotation. It's a great EDC.

I agree I have nothing against someone carrying a balisong (assuming it's legal where you are). But using it as an EDC knife is sort of laughable. Depending on where you work/live, it may be a bit different, but flipping open a balisong (not to mention a huge 8 oz. balisong) to open a package, cut cardboard/foam, etc. seems patently ridiculous. You also have to remember that you are not the center of the universe. The fact is, many people will be afraid if someone flips open a balisong in front of them. I personally don't have a problem with it, but that's the way it is.

If someone carries a balisong for self-defense where it is legal, I have absolutely no problem with that. That is what they are designed for. But as an EDC? No way. There are so many better EDC options than a balisong.
Some people carry a utility knife for public use and keep their SD knife and other goodies concealed . Besides , I think it might be possible to carefully and slowly draw and use a bali in public without causing alarm . You can act stupid and scare people with almost ANY knife , especially these days .

So carrying a bali with the intent of utility makes someone a douche bag, but if your intent is to stab someone with it, thats the only time you can carry one?
