Yeah maybe get some lessons about how that BG covertly carried it.

Oh and what else oh yes this guy is totally messing with you. As to the question of 14 year olds and tatical knives/ anything other than a SAK for daily EDC use it is totally out of the question.

Any moderators around here to control this utter nonsense? This does not help the forums or the knife hobby and I've been around here for quite a while.

This doesn't make my opinion any more significant than anyone else, but I'd love to see the hobby survive for as long as possible.

Good New Year to all.:)

Wouldn't it be strange if this poster is just trying to see if people here will recommend a fast opening knife (that is effective for slashing and stabbing people) to a 14 year old boy? For some dark and deceitful reason. There's more than a few groups and rabid anti-weapon people about and you just never know. I would never tell a minor to carry a knife for self-defense on any public forum. What they do on their own is one thing- but to publicly state advice to a 14 year old boy about the use of deadly weapons is beyond the pale. (that very age raises a red flag with me)

What 14 year old kid...

I agree that not every 14 year old is like the topicstarter, and certainly not as his mother(recommending to carry a knife) But everyone is different.

My personal analysis of Vanc99:(and I'm good in making those in only a few minutes:cool:)
He is a 14 year old kid listening to good punk rock with a very rich mother giving him (money for) everything he asks for, going from expensive knives to bikes and stuff.
And because he goes to skateparks and other areas in more dangerous parts of Baltimore to ride his BMX, he feels like he needs something better for protecting himself.(Although he has already got lots of knives and even a bali) The 99 in his nickname stands for Warren Sapp ...
To be short: I am sure about his age, but it would go a bit too far to give you his full name, adress, phone number, photo,... to convince you.:D

I don't know wether he was saying the (full)truth about the bus-attack, but with the anonimity of the internet, how you can you be sure about anything :D

Now as I said before: let's get back on topic.

@Mikel_24:
"Usually people just mind their own bussiness and don't want to get in trouble."
I know that is the reason for most people to let bad thing happen when they see it, but that is for me the most shocking part.
A grandmother of a friend was robbed violently in a subwaystation with over 20 persons in the neigbourhood, doing nothing. Only when the thug was out of sight, they went to her and asked her wether everything was ok with her. It was on the news here not long ago that a man was beaten to death on a bus with more than 40 people on it. And I have heard many other such story's.

Ok, if half of the people are too scared/weak/selfish/... to help another person, i could understand. But that nobody in a larg crowd takes action to help someoneis something I just can't get. It is because those people do nothing, others will be scared the rest of their lives, and others will be attacked again, because BG's know their is only little chance of being stopped by persons in the crowd.

@Vanc99: I hope the persons who were with you when they attacked you at least called 911 or helped describing the attackers to the police when they had left?

A very rich mother that lives in the bad side of the city? He himself stated that when he leaves to go to the mall and other places it is "to the better part of town".

This is my last post on this particular thread.....

It's obvious that vanc99 is not a 14 year old kid.
And it's also sounds like buckabee is in fact an associate of vanc99.

These guys definitely have an agenda.:thumbdn:
Don't feed them.

VANC99, I believe you. I'm a middle-aged woman who lives way out in the country and sees very little crime now...but that's because we made the decision to move OUT of Austin, Texas, 2 years ago.

Other people--just because something hasn't happened to you or you can't fathom it happening doesn't mean it hasn't happened to someone else. I shouldn't have to belabor the obvious on a forum like this, but we do live in an increasingly violent and insanely aggressive world. (It's called "end times", google it.)

As someone who's had a lot of weapons training and who's handled knives for more than 40 years (yep, I still have 3 knives I've owned for more than 40 years...and I'm 49), I think you deserve the right to buy a knife, VANC, and I hope you get a good one. My best recommendation in the under-$110 range would be the Spyderco Delica Combo edge, both for defensive purposes and because you'll use it 7 times a day for more mundane tasks like opening boxes.

I don't agree that VANC whipping out a knife will get his rear kicked harder or swifter. I don't have my knife stats at my fingertips, but in the gun world, law enforcement stats say that 90% of the time, mere presentation of a gun for self-defense is sufficient to deter the criminal. I.E., you whip out your Glock, he spits out a cussword and runs. I'd imagine it's a bit less for knives, but would estimate it to still be about 50 to 70%.

So that means that the next time VANC gets jumped on the light rail, if he whips out his tact knife, Mr. Billy Badboy will probably laugh nervously and make a command decision to go pick on someone else. Mission accomplished for VANC!

Y'all, let's cut the boy some slack. He's a young man in a bad situation and he's trying to do the right and responsible thing and defend himself instead of turning into a mushy metrosexual.

Oh, and I agree with the other posters who said the knife should not be your only defense...keep up the weights, train your awareness (always be aware of who's where doing what), and participate in sports (as a way to motivate fitness.)

Anything else you'd like to know, VANC? (Oh, and you've probably already learned this, but the next time you ask a question like this on a forum, just don't mention your age. Then people won't fixate on it, and they'll talk to your actual QUESTION.)

A very rich mother that lives in the bad side of the city? He himself stated that when he leaves to go to the mall and other places it is "to the better part of town".

Not everyone living in a poor(er) neigbourhood is poor.
Many people start living in a place when they have little money, and when they have a good job and stuff, still stay there for years because they like the neigbours and stuff. Besides, if I remember correctly he stated that his family will likely move to another place in the future.
And for the case his mother is indeed poorer than average: many bad parents give their kids more money than they spend themselfs, for compensating the bad aducation she is giving him, or because she doesn't want him to feel poor.(many poor parents do that).
Hope this will be my last offtopic post in this thread.

Minors can't carry any weapon legally in Baltimore one hour after dark to one hour before dark-and seems concealed carry of knives is illegal.

yeah, I'm starting to think he's full of it.

What 14 year old writes like that? Especially one that lives in or near the hood? Thugs carrying 2x4's? 14 year old owning a sebbie? I smell BS

I did when I was 14. Maybe he is a smart kid. Imagine that.

Even age discrimination here. It's actually sad.

Isn't a dangerous weapon any knife that has a blade over the legal limit?

Regardless, this manchild is just trolling.

I don't think so at all- because it would be stating they can carry them in the daylight hours.
Here in my state it's a deadly weapon if it's concealed and over a 4" blade.
I agree and there seems to even be a back me up troll that arrived of late.

Holy sh-t. Are you kidding me?

First of all, if using proper grammar is a problem for you, maybe you shouldn't have dropped out of high school to drive big rigs across the country. Secondly, as to how Buckabee knows about me, I assume he has viewed my Photobucket account. Third, if you don't believe I am 14, would you like me to scan my school ID? Fourth, I grew up in Maryland, moving out to Oklahoma when I was 6. We moved back to Maryland due to health complications with my uncle and grandmother. We moved into the downtown area, where a "Restore the Joy" sort of project was in affect. The area got better then plummeted into crime and drugs. I work for my money, part time at Subway and occasionally doing graphic design. Is spending money a problem? Fifth, the 99 in my user name is something I have used since my first email, it was just a number that has, and still does appeal to me for no give reason. Sixth, Jill, I'm a die-hard conservative, so in no way, would I be a "knife hater". Seventh, (Wow, it amazes me how many post I have to answer / how many were posted while I was in school.) I was up late last night because it was the last day of Christmas break. Eighth, my "agenda" is to get some d-mn recommendations for a knife. My presence on this forum may upset some of you, however, I have not attacked anyone that has not attacked me first.

And do me one favor, if you intend to attack me for using proper grammar and spelling, please do so with proper grammar and spelling. By using poor grammar you would lead one to assume a) You are uneducated. b) You are unable to spell check for typos / you are trying to garble out as many insults, and or attacks as possible. c) You have figured out that I have moderate OCD, and that poor grammar annoys me greatly. Or lastly, d) You wish to reinforce the stereotype that Americans are ignorant, and unintelligent (This applies only to posters who are U.S. citizens.).

Well that's what I'm saying. If it's at legal length, and it's not being concealed(clipped in pocket, on a belt etc), would it still be illegal?

No, it would not. I live in the City, that cite applies to the County.

One last point, Jill, when did I EVER say I intended to carry a knife in school?

Never. I would not carry a knife in school, I have high hopes for my future, and don't plan on ruining them by getting expelled for carrying a knife.

//parenting mode
If you still want to carry something for SD, that is, if you are sure of yourself that you can judge correctly when it is justified/legal/right to use it, if not, talk to an adult who knows you well about it, (and don't decide by following an internet discussion alone), then read on
oh yeah, And think about the fact that when you kill someone, even by accident, you are going to live with the psychological/mental consequenses for the rest of your live. So only use a knife for SD when you really think you're live is already in serious danger.
//end of parenting mode

Minors can't ...
Interesting link. Following the information there,
I would think it is best to carry pepperspray, because it seems legally for a minor, as long as you don't go out with it between 1 hour after sunset and 1 hour before sunrise. A normal knive also seems legal for him, but you should get some good self defense training if you are ever planning to use it.

EDIT: I've indeed seen your photobucket account by following an imagelink you posted here on BFC, I almost thought nobody would ever guess it was that easy to do a "backgroundcheck" in just a few minutes. The rest was easy to guess :)
And about your last remark: The postings of some other persons here made me indeed think that there must be something seriously wrong with the grammar of the regular American youth nowadays(I am from Belgium myself)

If you're referring to me, I'm 24 and have already graduated from college. Grammatical structure is very important in the work force, but it's not top priority for a Geographical Information Systems major. :D

And if using poor grammar is a sign of being uneducated, apparently you've never had e-mail correspondents with profs. at Universities. :D

(they all have PhD's...my environmental geology prof. had the worst sentence structure in the world but would blow your mind with his vast knowledge of Science.)

But you decide, what's more important? Being an english major or a science major of some kind? You tell me which degree will pay more(as in getting you the better J.O.B) in the real world.:D

We don't call it dangerous weapon here. They say deadly. Maybe it is the same, I've just always heard deadly.

mrhainky- You have 14 posts and your already getting into it with other people on the forums.

Going back to what settsecurity said: "Dont tell people your age and you will get your actual question answered." That is very wise.

Take it easy man, oh and did you take a look at my link?

Bill
