I have $250 Aussie dollars to spend...

OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH:foot::foot::foot::foot::foot::foot::foot::foot:

duh!

Not sure if you answered this or not, but what did you decide on getting knife wise with the money you had lachy?

Still havent decided 100%, but so far its going to be something like this :
CRKT Drifter in G10.
Spyderco Tenacious/Peristence (most likely tenacious).
Boker Plus CLB Karambit.
Byrd Cara Cara.
And, depending on how much money I have left after those, a G10 spyderco d'fly.

I know there is probably better knives than what I listed, still open for suggestions

Definately interested, thanks for lettin me know
I'll wait until later on tonight when Ron gives me some prices on a couple more knives I asked about, and then I'll get on top of my order.

Then theres the convincing my mum or dad to make the order for me (shouldnt be too hard as long as its a money order or something that doesnt involve their credit card)

I know what you mean about the credit card. And yet, even though I now could get a credit ard, I'd still be wary about using it online, I don't think its being paranoid though.

man I can't wait for my order from Ron

I dont blame you for being so keen to get your order in.
I havent even made an order yet (hell, even though theres a 99% chance I can, Im not even sure if i can depending on if my parents decide to let me or not) and Im already anxious to get some knives from him.

Buck has made some nice knives - like the Tom Mayo series in S30V blade and a Ti framelock (#171 & #172). While still available in stores, they are not in the 2010 Buck catalog - or on their website. I found a great price on a new 172 - and it is a super knife. I also have a #347 Vantage Pro, with the same basic 3.1" S30V blade as the 172 Mayo TNT - just in a contoured G10 scaled dual liner with a liner lock and a flipper for the blade. See below for the comparison.

The 347 was initially MSRP $75 - now $95 - still a bargain, as the last 172 listed for $350 - essentially, the exact same S30V blade! Actually, the #347 Vantage Pro has a flipper - for a bit faster deployment. The 171's 2 5/8" S30V blade may be better suited - the Vantage Pro in that size is #342. They list for $300 for the 171 in '09 - $80 for the #342 in the current catalog. The Vantage Pro is a bargain for an upgrade blade metal.

A bit off the subject but I have just recieved a seizure notice from an over-zealous customs officer claiming my new Blade-Tech Profili liner loch is an illegal "Flick knife" which can be flicked open using centrifugal force. I recieved the notice yesterday and have emailed back saying I want a second opinion. Here's hoping. God Bless America !

Welcome to the wonderful world of Australian Customs!

i doubt you'll get a second opinion, they'll ship it back to sender. be thankful that you aren't facing various firearms charges for importing an illegal weapon (a flick knife comes under the same legislation as an AK47, albeit in a different category).

you're only real hope at this point is to contact the seller and ask them to tighten the pivot screws so it can't be "flicked" and ship it again.

a better option is to wade through the mountain of paper warfare and get a Permit To Import.

(note for JCK: the reason i suggest this here and didn't suggest it for your benchmade is that the benchmade Axis mechanism is the bit that's fuzzy, not the action of the knife itself)

Sambo, thanks for the support I recieved a email back saying I'll need to do paper work or the knife will be disposed of, sending knife back to seller is not an option. In my email I explained how the knife wasn't a Flick knife and wanted a 2nd opinion from a more experienced customs officer. The same officer emailed me back claiming it had been decided in Sydney before it was decided in Brisbane MMMMMM ??? Anyway hoping I'll get abetter response when I do my offical forms. If this fails I can go to court. if I lose I face court costs and criminal charges. Soviet Socialist Republic Of Australia

if i'm ever in the market for another folding knife, i'll just buy one from a local retailer, and cop the horrific costs, rather than trying to import one.

or, i'll get the formwork sorted out before ordering one.

it sucks, it's stupid and it's only going to get worse.

personally, i have my Leatherman Wave and that satisfies all my folding knife needs and desires. the rest are/will be fixed blades.

Ok, so far this is my order..Let me know if you think I should replace something with another knife.

Spyderco Persistance $48
Boker Plus CLB Karambit $45
Buck Vantage Large $30
CRKT Drifter $30
Byrd Cara Cara $45

Total cost = $198.
$198 + $8 shipping/postage
= OVERALL COST: $206.

Some other choices are...
Tenacious $55
Kershaw Hawk $35
Kershaw Vapour II $45

Still open for suggestions  :D.

If you order more than one knife from Ron you only pay postage for one knife ($8).
