I have $250 Aussie dollars to spend...

kewl. i'll check him out.

i'm about to order some fixed blades. if he's competative with the US online stores, i'll shop locally.

ok, so who is this "ron" you speak of?

A mad dude

I'm picking a few things up from him my self actually, and lachy, throw in a tuff cloth for an extra 12 or 13 bucks depending if you go standard or marine grade, many people including Ron (hope your don't mind me quoting you) swear by it for knife, gun, and whatever else, and what I've used them for - marine / boat care. Worked really well for me, and for many others it seems.
Unless you already have some/ can't spare the 12 bucks - i.e. saving for something else (g10 spydie d'fly?) :D

Hahaha, no hidden messages in that one, eh JCK? :p

I will probably pick up some tuff cloths, I need something to protect my knives frm rust when they arent in use so yeah.

Woops, wonder how that slipped in there :D

But your shortlist of knives your getting from Ron seems great, espeically as you ahve some variety, even if they all aren't super tank folders.

Now if only I could get a green g10 Manix 2, that would be sweet, but they were a sprint run i believe :( - not trying to get OT, but are there any normal production runs of the manix 2 that are FFG, not sabre ground? I keep getting cpnfused betwen all the sprint runs and what not.

sorry lachy if I'm like using your thread to get answers

The main reason we can't Benchmades in Oz is because Benchmade won't deal with on-line only stores and don't seem to supply to wholesalers so we are screwed as I've never seen a bricks and mortar knife store here other than gun/camping stores selling cheap brands at high prices
Oz customs are a weird bunch, it all depends on who inspects your package and if they got any last night, its a bit like a lucky dip.

prices sure are inflated - the other day I had some free time, went to the city disposals store on elizabeth st, they were selling spyderco delicas for about 200+ and a Ontario Rat 6 for about 280 bucks. Bloody ridiculous. Even my little swiss army knife alox barley corn cost me 30 bucks, and as I said before, 7mm cord (what they called it) was about 1.50 a meter.

EDIT: oh and they didn't have any benchmades, so I guess people are holding onto them, hell they probably wouldn't give you what its really worth if you tried to sell it to them.

Bad news, can't order from Ron this time around.
I'll probably buy some other cheap knives from eBay. I know this is stupid compared to what I could get from Ron, but the Smith & Wesson HRT fixed blades appeal to me and some of their folders look half decent for the price.

In a few weeks hopefully I will make an order at Urban Conquest.

so you can't order from Ron because he can't get the S&W HRT FB? or why can't you order from Ron? becuase if this is the blade that really appeals to you, buy it, and don't buy the other cheap knives, maybe save whats left, for getting a few good knives from Ron, maybe a benchmade, spyderco, ESEE, TOPS, etc..

just my 2 cents

No no no sorry I should have made that clearer.
My parents said I can make the order in 2 or 3 weeks. I'm most likely going to buy one or two of the S&W FB's and keep the rest for the order, exactly like you said.

Sorry for not explaining it the first time.

oh ok, no problem, I guess you want some knives to play with until you can get your good ones. I'll hopefully be getting my order frmo Ron soon, but I kept adding stuff to it, so now I have to wait for a new knife to ship, but I think all my other stuff is here, ready to send out

I decided to get a really nice knife, that appeals to me, and I ended up going with the Spyderco Sage 2. It was a bit Pricey at $215, but I prefer to have a nice knife I know I'll use then 5 knives that I'll become favourable towards one. Also that way I don't have to know what I'm missing out on, and maybe save some more money. if that makes sense.

Wow nice.

I need to find myself a job so I can afford to spend $200+ on nice knives.

haha thanks mate. Well thats about all I could spend on a knife, and its probably over budget, but figured they aren't going to be around for long (apparently) then no more spending. I also need a job, and I had some cash left over, saved for a bit, but now I'm back to being broke, which is normal for a student :(

But I'm really looking forward to getting my order, and being able to use my new knives, and my upcoming break, in which I hope to go hiking, but I'll have to wait until my longer holday break, I have one in a week or so, but that is only for a week, and I have to study that whole week for exams.

But yeah, dude save up and get a really nice user. Unless you feel better using a cheaper knife, like some guys here, who (and NOTHING is wrong with doing this) prefer to buy a nice knife, maybe a sage 2, or a sebenza and sit it in a safe, as opposed to use it. of course those guys are richer than I am, and the only way I feel that the 215 bucks I just dropped on this knife is worth it, is by using it:thumbup:
