I have a Flipping Problem..

oh yeah, it's addictive alright! flippin is way too much fun...

PS - Happy birthday to Jerry! :D

Before I start messing with the pivot, I want to break it in a bit and make sure I am flipping it correctly. Any pointers on how to correctly flip a manual flipper?

And yes, HBD Jerry!! He is alive!

It's pretty straight forward. Index finger on flippy thing. Push quickly.... revel in beauty of flippery

and i have found that more than half my kershaws benefited from minor adjustment of the pivot tension when NIB

No real correct way to flip open. There's different ways to do it and some work better for other. Heavier blades you can just use the push button method. Some lighter require a small wrist flick. I even hold a knife spine side down with my thumb and forefinger , and flip it open with my middle finger. My friend draws it from his pocket then straight down along his pants to open it. Don't be afraid to play with the pivot tension. I got one skyline that opens smooth even when tightened, and another that needs to be loosened a little to fly open.

ZVT, KVT and ZTVT are all the same thing, Kershaw's proprietary bearing system, it has a washer/race that holds the bearings in. IKBS AFAIK just lays the bearings in a slot so if you take the knife apart the bearings can fall out.
Thanks Scurvy.

I always push the flipper more in the direction of the pivot rather than just pulling it down. I' ve never had a manual flipper that doesn' t open all the way when using that technique.

When I woke up, I immediately went to flip around my bedroom lol And to my surprise, the skyline flipped right open, with a tiny bit of wrist action. Very pleased. Let the flipping discussion continue...

This is my method of choice. If you master this technique you can open nearly any flipper without any wrist action at all.

I can flip open my skyline with a little wrist action w no problem. Can you flip it open without any wrist action? I can flip my brothers kershaw ram no problem while holding wrist still, but not so much w the skyline.

I love my kershaw leek, kershaw blur tanto, crkt m16-13z, crkt ripple is very smooth, but my junkyard dog is the most fun. Maybe because it's the newest. However, I just picked up a paramilitary today, so we shall see...:D

Oh yes you can flip open the Skyline easily without wrist action. It' s really just technique and I dont really mess with the pivot screw. I just pretty much keep it in that sweet spot where it doesn' t have horizontal play(or maybe a little, that will make it easier), the blade is relatively centered and opens nice and fast.
It' s really hard to explain the technique correctly. Just try to push the flipper in more towards the pivot screw than just straight up pulling it down. But do give it a tiny bit of downward force as well, just enough to get the blade past that ball detent.

I hate 3" blades! i hate made in china ! I bought a cryo for 22.00 over a week ago. cant put it down. cant stop flipping it. the best knife i ever got for the money. ive been using it at work, stays sharp. i flip it while watching tv,in the car, cant wait for the next red light!never had such entertainment for 22.00 ever.i might get another one, thats how great this cryo is !!!!

My favorite flipper so far..

Re: the flippin' Skyline (hehehe), I can pop mine out with no wrist action at all. Just put the tip of your finger on the very tip of the flipper, and when you pull down, make sure you're pulling down in line with the handle, so your index finger travels down the handle (but not touching it). Of course, mine is very well-used and broken in, but I haven't had to loosen the pivot. AFAIK, Thomas W says all flipper Kershaws are tuned from the factory, and he can flip open any manual flipper fresh out of the box.
