I have an urge to put my $200 folder into the mud.

Knives are meant to be used. Glad to see that they are. I am a fixed blade guy myself, but some good looking folders here. Ever seen the inside of a bowling pin?

Hello my name is Spyder59 and I am a knife-aholic. I have a psychological condition that stands in the way of me using my "pretty" knives as they were intended. LOl. But seriously I really do, and I think a few of us have an aversion to scuffing up a new knife. When I see posts and pictures like those above, it encourages me to use my knives like they should be used. It's silly, but I find it hard to use my new $23.00 Cold Steel Spike Bowie, because it has such a nice mirror finish. This thread can help and encourage people like me to use their knives in spite of their new like condition. One way this is accomplished is, because I have seen a lot of these knives after the use illustrated above, and they still look magnificent. Also knives that are well used, properly, have a character to them that enhances their beauty. So, in short, I commend and encourage the continued reading and participation in this thread.

Hahaha. Oh, you guys.

-I mean, "Heeyyy you guuyyys, ha ha!"

Yeah, there is just something about the looks of a knife that is well used. Well used and well maintained is even better.

So, why does it bother me when I put a scratch or ding on one of mine?

No, you got it all wrong Blues. I encourage people to do douchy stuff with their expensive toys. Its makes me feel better about myself.

I don't understand your post. Not everyone looks at the world in the same way that you do, nor should they have to. The hardest use I have for my knives is cutting through a tough piece of steak should I be so unfortunate.

Blues Bender has a job that calls for knives and he likes using high-end knives to do his work even when a cheap knife will do. My work calls for me to write down stuff and I like to use a high-end fountain pen when any cheap ballpoint will do. Nothing wrong with either of those practices. If you like to keep your knives displayed on a pedestal kept in a hermetically sealed, climate-controlled vault, nothing wrong with that either.

It's a big wide world. Your way isn't the only right way. And sometimes people do things just to please themselves and not necessarily to offend your sensibilities. And, in this case, you have no cause for your sensibilities to be offended.

Expensive? What does that even mean? I enjoy cognacs that are $200+ a bottle, should I start drinking bud light instead because drinking expensive cognac is douchy too?

This. Not much of a drinker...but I'm not going to put my Carhartts, Red Wing boots, and Emerson in the closet.

Then run out to Wallyworld and pick up Walls bibs and jacket, Brahma boots, and a Kershaw just cause they don't cost too much to get dirty.

Once wnen i was young. I was running irrigation piping under a concrete walk and the pipe got jammed. THe hole was filled with dirty muddy water and i stuck my arm and my coast (buck 110 imitation) knife in to free the pipe. The knife never closed again.

Not the best photo, but this is my Military (only $150) at my job. Lately been carrying an Emerson.

Must be a douche also because I use all my knives.

He was my old Xm-18 the day after I got it. Cut everything I could find and used it all day in the auto shop.

My old praetorian enjoying some tire disposal.

I could go on for hours. I see no point in having a knife if you are not going to use it.

Just like any other tool. I'm not going to not use my Snap-on 18v cordless impact because it was 550$. In fact I use the death out of it.

I used to buy knives with the thought of keeping them pristine and unused. Why? I don't know. I guess I thought maybe they would be worth more some day. I used to buy cheap knives for EDC and kept my special knives in my gun safe. Recently, that philosophy has changed. I had a wakeup call at the doctors office and had to change my lifestyle. Along with that lifestyle change, I changed my philosophy of knives. Life is too short to only admire your collection but never use it. So now, I buy higher valued knives and I USE them. When I come upon a task that requires me to cut something, it makes me feel good to pull a high-end-carry and use it. The feeling of quality in your hands is worth more to me now than merely looking at it. Recently, I spent more on a knife than I ever have in my life and I now carry that with me every day. I have no intention to sell it, only to USE it. And I feel good about that.

I buy knives to use them.

YMMV, but my only safe queen is a cheap ass Schrade folder that my grandpa gave me. Last Christmas gift I got from him, and I like to keep it in the same condition it was in last time I saw him.

Yes, but does it have blood grooves.

Blue's bender A+++ on using knife's like that!! If I could afford a Chris Reeve I'd use it too!! My question is how did you ever get the great stuff foam off your hands and the knife?? I use that crap all the time but can't get it off my hands....
