I have an urge to put my $200 folder into the mud.

Blue's bender A+++ on using knife's like that!! If I could afford a Chris Reeve I'd use it too!! My question is how did you ever get the great stuff foam off your hands and the knife?? I use that crap all the time but can't get it off my hands....

I used sandpaper to get it off my hands, and a razor blade to get it off my knife:)

Having a ridiculously high end, precision tool I'm not afraid to use is cool and stylish. Going out of my way to make sure people know about it isn't.

This is a knife forum, what did you expect? That's like saying "showing off your muddy 4x4 on a Chevy forum is stupid". Nobody is trying to be "cool", I love seeing other people put their high dollar knives to good use.

I never thought a few pics of some well-used knives would hurt those with sensitive feelings...

Some of you need to not click open a thread about people using expensive knives if you didn't want to see pictures of people using expensive knives...

knives_in_nature,

I like your style

I like your avatar. Is it true the correct Yin/Yang has the white over black ?

I'm a bit of a Taoist at heart as well.

So knife porn is cool but dirty knife porn is uncool?

I'm for knife porn in all its forms . . . well . . . except with animals . . .
. . . wait . . . some of you guys like to stick your knives into dead animals . . .
Thasss just really sick and twisted.
:p

I was at Cabelas today, I guessed that they might have some close-outs on Cabelas branded gear, but nothing yet. There were some interesting knives for sale, I was looking at the Buck filleting knife in SV30. It's a really nice-looking piece. The blade was nice and bendable, springy, and looks beautiful. $90, give or take. I don't have a filleting knife. I could kind of justify the purchase. I left it today but might go back tomorrow and pick it up. It's really nice, I would appreciate using it to bone out chickens and stuff like that. It's kind of an expensive knife to me, but it's the kind of thing I would use every day. It's got a really thin profile and looks like it would be a great slicer that would flex around bones. I believe in spending money on knives I use every day. I took at look at the Alaskan SV30 Buck 110 as well. I like it and want it, and it's kind of office-friendly,

Had THE SAME problem with my Bowie Spike a while back...it just looked too pretty.

I ended up saying TO HELL one day and started using it. I now really appreciate it. Awesome, awesome food prepping blade and wicked slicer!

I have some weird sick love for Benchmade 275. Can't explain it. It's not an expensive knife to me, so I bought 3 and safe-queened 2. I safe-queened a minirukus for years before mustering the strength to beat on it.

There is a whole thread on Customs being used in the Custom and Handmade subforum for those interested in seeing custom knives being used.

I have always enjoyed using and seeing knives being used but understand some collect knives because they want to and for their admiration.

I started getting this urge to get it dirty. Maybe not actually put it in mud but close to it. Anybody use their not so inexpensive folder to the point they are filthy? Picture would be awesome too. Thanks

I cut stuff with knives. Clean or dirty does not matter, but if it is something like a tar (on a material to cut) or similar material I would be hesitant to cut something where it will get on the knife and be difficult to clean off.

Interesting you jumped in to assume you were being personally referenced here.

Come on man this was suppose to be a fun thread showing and talking about good knives gettin down and dirty. Nobody is showing off. Please ease up a little.

Dude, i am eased up.

I contributed, but it seems only half my point was heard. Totally down with nice knives being used. Its why Im here.

Doesn't matter of the cost, I never buy a knife I can't afford to use.

Well said! I won't buy a knife that I can't afford to replace if lost or damaged. With that said, I only have a few camp knives I abuse. These days, I tend to use "the right tool for the job" and it isn't always a knife. Although I could replace them, I never have to because they are used appropriately.

That certainly doesn't mean you shouldn't abuse yours if you want. You earn it, you save for it, you buy it, you use it the way YOU want to and nobody here needs to get butt-hurt because they see a $400 CR thrown in the mud.

Did you happen to read my post on page two? I had the same problem, but not anymore! :)
By the way it is a great food prepper. That's what I use mine for a lot.

This thread is great!! I'm a utilitarian and a light fighter -- former Army EOD guy -- I use my tools, don't carry much, keep what works, toss the junk. In my younger days $20-40 for a knife was a lot of money but in the Army I used a blade until it dulled, chucked it and bought a new one. Didn't have time, know how or patience to sharpen them; didn't have the money or the foresight to buy a more expensive well-made blade. Now that I'm more established I've come to enjoy seeing the beauty of some of these knives but also the greatness of quality steel, designs, and tools with the ability to last through the job. How can you see and place a value of a higher dollar knife whether it's a Benchmade, ZT or Sebenza (name your brand...) without letting it prove itself? Nice to see pics of safe queens, collections and people that take care of their investments --- better FOR ME to see end users putting these tough tools through their paces--- showing the TRUE value of these tools and designs.

My two cents.

Well put! I couldn't rationalise spending $100, 200, 300+ dollars on a knife that I was afraid to use. To me, I'm spending this money bcuz it is a superior cutting tool and will do what I need it to. I forgot who said it, but someone once said inna thread, "I'm not a collector, I'm a user with a lot of options!"
EXACTLY!
