I have slipped into the abyss.... bought a Rockstead Shin Pic's added :)

Omg. A whole nother level of knife and beauty. I am so jealous these things are amazing. I have seen them at one of the stores near my house. I love these knives. Just the fact that they exist in the world is a blessing.

Thank god they don't make leftys!!!
Otherwise the temptation may be too great.

(and if they actually do, keep it to yourself! I don't need to know:D)

This thread made me go look for a lefty. Thankfully I didn't find one haha

Looks like 399 to me. Awesome knife man, I've been drooling over them for a while, still outta my budget.

Is the serial number 333 or 393? 333 would be cool:cool:

It's actually 398 (I apologize for the poor angle on the shot)...

I find it pretty cool that after all this time Rockstead has only produced less than 400 of these knives. The reason I say that is I ordered directly from them and as soon as I placed my order the Shin DLC went "out of stock"

I am looking really hard at picking up a little brother for this.. the KOU also in DLC/YXR7

Congrats, it is hard to describe accurately the feeling of over-the-top quality in a Shin. I traded mine off for a personal grail, but it was truly amazing.

They definately aren't pumping out tons of knives like other production makers. My Higo is number 452 as of 5/1/15 and Chi was number 214 at 8/6/15.

I show my love through a patch on the sleeve of my Carhartt:D

Jealousy overwhelming. These blades are a direct continuation of the beauty of traditional Japanese bladefraft. I want the one that looks like a classic tanto.

These guys know how to make a knife.

Ok I'm going to ask a dumb question.... does anyone "use" these knives in the conventional sense, i.e. to cut something? Or are they acquired for other reasons? I would imagine the polished finish would get damaged if the blade was used.

I would like to try one, but I have never spent more than around $500 for a folder, and even that was only once or twice.

What does a Rockstead offer in terms of fit and finish over a CRK that justifies up to twice the cost?

I carry mine in a hermetically sealed pelican case and only take it out for pictures:rolleyes:

Yes, I use mine all the time in a construction setting (serious).

Lower production numbers and higher amounts of finishing (I.e. mirror polishing). It needs to be seen to believe, much like a Sebenza. I have literally used the mirror finish on my Chi to make sure things aren't stuck in my teeth after dinner dates:D

What is the reason for the short fuller and the hole in the blades on these knives?

Nice photographs in this thread - thanks!

I'm not certain, but I've read that it's possibly for machining purposes, similar to the holes on a Sebenzas handle. Or it could just be for aesthetic purposes.

Personally, I think it's for aerodynamics:D

I thought that was just Rocstead's trademark. Kind of like the Spyderhole or the little gold dot Eleshwitz puts on his blades.

Rockstead are wayyy out of my price range and not really my style but I'm always happy to see people who are stoked about their new toys. Congrats and nice pics!
