I have some custom micarta....someone want to use it?

blue speck or 4 colour look nice but i'm not going to ask for some as to the uk's a bit far and i got 4 knives on the go as it is.

going to have to have a go at this micarta making

Todd sent me some to evaluate, and I ended up ordering a couple more from him. I make a lot of my own simple layered stuff, but using molds allows him to do all sorts of neat things. I didn't put any on a knife yet, but I did grind and polish a couple of the yarn micarta's and they are really nice.

That glow in the dark yarn stuff is kinda funky:)

I requested a light blue piece earlier but I didn't hear back. Am I on the list for light blue?

pm me you address....thats the last piece. Sorry adammichael. Email Shadetree Phenolics for some:thumbup:

Todd, what kind of tools are you using to make this stuff?

Very basic ones for now...simple u-shaped steel molds and lots of latex gloves and waxed paper. If this goes well and I get some good feedback, I will increase the sophistication of my operation.

That is a paper based one, I'm not too sure how much inner beauty will come out of that one. I look forward to your comments.

I'd like to try that camo micarta if you have any left. I will definately post pics. Let me know if you still have any.

That is a 4 color mix that was rolled and twisted. I think will turn out pretty neat. Your thoughts and pictures will be greatly appreciated.

Brian,
First off, thanks for doing this for me...When you see something of mine you like, please let me know, I owe you. I'll have the tools get it to a finished size soon. Just let me know and I'll hook you up.
Also, I am not sure who got the blue speckled one...whoever got it, I look forward to a review and pics!

Brian! Sorry for the hijack. I thought these questions would benefit folks interested in your post. If you're not cool with it let me know and I'll edit. :D

Hey Todd.
I'd normally send you a message via e-mail but I'm at work and can't access it from here. Besides others may benefit from the same questions.

I want to know a little more about the Texalium. What is it? It looks like silver twill G10.

Also the denim pieces (dark blue/green combo), and the Burlap pieces (3 color camo ). Do you have any photos showing what they look like contoured?

One last thing. Do you have a price list for your work?

cool stuff BTW! I can't wait to try a piece!!

First off I have sent you an email. I look forward to your response

The texalium is similar to a silver G10, (looks a little like woven aluminum foil), I suppose. Kinda like a silver carbon fiber but much less expensive. That piece is off to another maker, so hopefully I'll have some pics of this on a knife in a few weeks. I am amazed by how stiff thin pieces are. Link to soller composites: http://www.solarcomposites.com/composites/carbon fiber fabric.html

Regarding the contoured pieces, I am shopping for a sander so I can provide that...I am still using some pretty basic tools for now and testing the waters, so to speak.

Same answer for prices...I'm looking at the $25-40 range, depending on the cost of raw materials. I will entertain custon work also, so just ask. My time is a bit short just now, I expect a formal rollout in the next few weeks. Brian kinda outed me a little early, to this is a bit of a sneak peak.
Thanks for the interest

I was lucky enough to get a few pieces of custom micarta made by a forum member. I can not use it for jobs I have on order and wont be able to mess with it for some time. The maker wants some fast feedback so I thought I'd ask if anyone wants to try it out.

The agreement is that it will be used pretty fast and pictures will be posted.
Please dont ask for any if you cant post pictures or have it used within a few weeks.
I only have about 4 pieces I think.........I'll have to check again to see what I was sent. Its is 1 1/4" wide and variuos colors. I'll post more later if anyone is interested.

The micarta arrived. Thank you kind sir. I am leaving for a two week business trip. I'll start one of my full tang knives as soon as I get back on July 27th. I have a nice forged tapered full tang 1080 skinner that I can put it on. I'll post pictures when I get it done.

This stuff looks cool. By the way, in knife making "cool" is a technical term!
