I heard a terrible rumor about PVK

Where I come from, you let the family decide whether or not the death is announced or if there is an obit. People die from a lot of things they don't want publicized, suicide, drunk driving, shot to death by a jealous husband, or they just can't handle "sorry for your loss platitudes. Howsa 'bout, the owner of a family mail order business dies before Xmas the family might not have wanted it publicized until they work things out.

Got much empathy?
When have you ever seen “killed themself” or “died in a drunk driving accident” or “shot to death by a jealous ex-husband” in an obituary?

How about never. You can announce that someone passed on without giving any details… as is typical in an obituary.

Sorry I must have been unclear, those are good reason to not want a death known if only due to the families severe emotional stress

I understand where you’re coming from, but I would think being constantly asked what happened to someone, why they haven’t seen them around, “hey how is so and so” would cause more stress. An obituary keeps people away from the family and gives them time to grieve without everybody pestering them.

What kind of person calls a business to ask if the owner‘s dead?
What kind of person wants to publicize to the world someone’s death?

There are a host of reasons to keep things private when someone dies, not have an obit and not to call a small firm to see if a tragic internet rumour is

Yeah, because once a rumor like this comes out, no one could simply call and ask to SPEAK to the person in question, or anything...

I’m not sure where your from, but it’s obvious you’ve not really thought through the impracticalities of keeping a death a secret. Hide the details? Sure, that might be proper, but someone’s going to notice when John Public stops showing up for work.

Also, I’m 90% certain that 3/4 of those situations you mentioned get announced on the news regardless of what the family wants, and 99% sure you cooked up an imaginary decision that no family would make. “Yeah, let’s just keep this our secret.”

If you’d like to further discuss this, you can meet me at (34N, 40W) so we can stop derailing this thread. In the meantime I’ll be hoping for a confirmation that Josh is alive and well.

I don't know where you come from but in the real world, death by drunk driving and/or murder is a matter of public record. What the family wants is irreverent in those cases.

If supporting this site with one's mind, one should at least do us all a favor and think critically.

I hope this rumor is not true and I sure wish folks would not have even spread the rumor without actually knowing.

I really wish this was all bogus. Josh and I have worked together and he's treated me very well.

He messaged me two weeks ago on IG before I went to the Vegas AKI Show.

I sent a polite message back a couple of days ago concerning the "exaggerated rumors of his death".

I have not gotten a response.

Sigh.

It's pretty creepy (and morbid) how people want bad news, if not even consciously, and will somehow feel better when the rumors are confirmed. Personally, I really like(d)? Josh and was always treated as a valued customer - going WAY back. I pray to God he's okay and hope that the people who chimed in here are looking for a happy ending and not another senseless tragedy. 🙏

Pretty sure no one here WANTS him to be dead, so that’s not accurate.

True, I don't think any of the folks who have posted in this thread want to see Mr. Burbank dead, nor has anyone said or even implied such a thing. We just want to know if he is alive, or not. If he is alive, great! If not, then it would good to know for sure so we can pay our respects, pray for his soul, send condolences to his family, honor his memory...

I never said people WANT him dead. I was speaking to the concept of people liking bad news. And you or anyone else can own up to that if you're honest with yourself. Think of how excited news anchors get when there's a tragedy - people like tragedies and all the gory details that go along with it; people have innate morbid curiosities.
