I just got my SOG Pillar in, and boy am I disappointed. What a letdown.

I was browsing for some cheap knives some time ago... the guy showed me a fixed knife and said it was a scandi blade with a razor sharp edge... I proceeded to run the entire blade across the soft skin of my forearm. lol not even a mark... Is your blade that dull?
A dude handed you a knife, told you it was razor sharp, and you went ahead and tried laying your forearm open with it anyway?

It's not quite that dull, but I've got a lot of different knives with S35VN steel, and this is the worst factory edge I've ever seen on a knife at this price point. I'm going to just send it back. I mean, I've had several Buck 119s, and there's always a razor sharp edge on that knife when I bought it. Then again, Buck always does a fantastic job with 420HC.

It’s been explained more then once in this thread and even more in his last 4-5 threads.
You appear to be rather emotionally invested in the OP, or, and I think this is much more likely, you just enjoy arguing and are having a good time.
Either way I endured about all I care to of your condescending attitude.

Good Bye
Good riddance.

Pretty sure most people agree that you should send it back if it’s truly dull. We’ve all said something about sharpening if you’re up to the task. If not it’s cool man. I just learned how to sharpen not long ago. I can free hand but much prefer my $50 guided sharpener. Don’t buy another survival knife and use the money use save for return postage or buy an affordable sharpening system and fix it. I’d be pissed if it was super dull so I get it. Until you pony up the pictures most of us will doubt the validity of your claims. As I said previously what is screaming sharp to some is dull to others.
I caught the world record catfish earlier, size of a vw bus! Pictures? Who the hell needs proof? Just take my word for it.

I gotta admit that I was so amped for this knife, heard nothing but great things about the Sog Pillar. It looked great, and just fit the bill for what I wanted in a fixed blade knife. I love s35vn steel, but when I got it in, it was as blunt as a butter knife. The factory edge on this knife was pathetic. It's a $200.00 knife, and I shouldn't have to fix the edge on it when it arrives. I'm not kidding. I got butter knives that cut better than this thing. It failed the paper test, and it feels like a butter knife edge. How does that happen??? Well, as soon as you start thinking SOG has their act together, they show you who they really are once again. I'm just sad.

So it's not quite as blunt as a butter knife?

: )

CONGRATS TO ALL! THIS THREAD IS NOW COMPLETE!!!!

I think Lasador will need to be the judge of that. He IS the OP, not you.
Paratrooper06 is one of the only people on Blade Forums that take this site seriously. I mean, the topic here is about a knife that I purchased, and my experience on Blade Forums has been that very few people on here know anything about knives, and even less want to discuss the topic. I give anybody credit on here who is actually interested in the subject matter, but 95% of the people on here couldn't care less about knives. Just another site with a bunch of brave keyboard warriors... kinda commonplace and dreary. I think the ignore feature on this site is going to be one of my favorites---and definitely one of the most useful.

I'm pretty satisfied with my small collection of older Sogs. I think these are all great value knives.
The second one (2021) is the only one that came dull.

I have 2 of those Spec Arc's (2nd knife down as you know). Both came very sharp and evenly ground. Just goes to show that factories slip up sometimes with sharpening. I don't like the handle with SOG billboards on each side, but the made in Japan VG-10 blades are very cool and as far as I can tell, are the same blades that were used for the older Spec Elites. Very smooth action as well.

I've gotten knives with bad edges too, it seems like poor quality control to me. I'm guessing we have higher standards than most people though. I can tell you first hard it's been all but impossible to find people to work the last two years. I think the quality of everything in general is going down.

The level of irony here is extreme.

Not a single one of us is above reproach or perfect in our knife knowledge. This isn’t a gang wherein we ostracize those a little different or that have interests that differ from ours. Let us be open-minded and respectful in our efforts to inform, rather than alienating people that might be new, lacking knowledge, or a little quirky in their delivery. You’re right, this isn’t Facebook or instagram… so let’s not stoop to that level. we are better than that.
is too .... are not

This would be a good time for an Alannis Morisette song.
