I just joined the Opinel Club

My #8 Inox is a dedicated food prep and food slicer. My #8 Carbone just sits around in my knife drawer until I decide what else to do with it.

Sentence it to hard labor by sending it out to do yard work or to live in your shop. Try to break it. (Just don't rely on the lock to keep the blade from closing.)

You may be shocked at how tough it is.

Ok, pictures w/MODS.

Reshape blade to resemble a drop point. Pointed knives tend to bite me.:)
Grind handle to flatten it some, round handles tend to "turn" on me.
Knock off some of the artistic flair of the handle, and ease edges.
"Flame" the wood to make it interesting.
Treat all of the wood to make a little water resistent.
A piece of cork in the blade park, to reduce blade dulling when striking the handle.

Gullwing, you're on the path. Now melt some Johnson floor wax or carpenters bees wax into the joint to make it more water resistant.
