I just ordered a limited edition bk16!

Well I think this will count as a productive thread towards greybushes BH # lol this is probably the fastest growing thread I have ever seen.

I'm really hoping that etching isn't too deep.

Im kinda hoping its deep enuff to be visible if the coating gets stripped...IF I keep it...thinking carmex in the etching...then a nice blue or blue etch everywhere else...

I wouldn't mind Ethans sig as much but The first production run is what has me cringing. We will see.

Just the 16 as far as grinds, However these all are roll stamped. The new ones will not be.

yeah, I knew about the 'mark stamping...Im sooooooo bullshittin myself...I hit the ''Buy'' button telling myself it was because I could resell it for a profit inna couple weeks then buy a ''normal'' 16 with the proceeds and basically make it a great deal...but I doubt I'll be able to part with it LOL so I just payed 15$ more for a 16 instead of making myself a good future deal. oh well, whats 15$ anyways...

If these numbers are true (not doubting you) then they should be far gone already (out of stock)??

Or am I piecing info together wrong :-/

Just relaying what the clerk told me. He also said of the 12 they had for store sales, they had only sold one that morning. Evidently the locals in & around Pigeon Forge are not Becker enthusiasts?

I didn't read this entire thread til I got back home . . . was unaware SMKW also had the BK15 and BK17. Probably just as well 'cause I'd have been in trouble had I bought over $264 worth of knives as opposed to $88. Can't believe the clerk didn't mention this to me. But IMO most of the clerks are SMKW are mere order takers as opposed to folks trying to help a Becker fan.

Maybe later on the 15 & 17 . . . but I really wish I had looked at them so I could get a feel for the difference in grinds amongst the three.

Also, the engraving of "First Production Run" and Ethan's signature are sunk into the metal and definitely won't be coming off when you strip the knife. It'll just be the same color as the rest of the blade.

The first production part has to go, I like the signature, that will stay, but the rest has to go! Any ideas?

im thinking, if they are indeed deep etched as our guy who has one in hand says...strip, carmex mr ethan's sig, then blue it...would at least make the FPR billboard not as noticable. Would blend in the blade while the sig stood out

*I wish they had added the sig and then a # instead of the FPR....then we coulda all feverishly traded amongst ourselves til we got the 16 with our BK # LMAO

Ha! I was hoping if i could get like an honorary # or something for spreading the love of my find.... Anyone? Anyone?

I'm gonna strip mine and use the shit out of it.....whats this Queen crap everyone is talking about?

Oh it will come out just need to go grab a new belt for the sander and......

I had temporarily forgotten the roll stamped part on the 15 and 17 too......sigh. crap. again.

Hey Everybody......

Yes, there are only about two to two hundred fifty of the roll stamped tweeners (each)......At Smoky's rep weekend the Smoky guys and Kim (from Ka-Bar) and I were having din and After looking over the goods and discovering that there was a first production run of a few hundred they offered to take ALL of them.....YES we said SOLD........Thank You Steve !!!!!....

Regarding the Sabre Vs. Full Flat ground 16s.....The original saber grind was to enable a roll stamped logo......Its gotta be flat to do the roll......That is why you frequently find a small section of blade in front of the handle or guard.....I want the sharp part of my knives to start just in front of the handle to increase control for small work.....It is important to me and is one of the hallmarks of my designs.....During the long development time I kept harping on making the blade grind go as high as possible to increase the slice and leave barely enough room for the stamp.......Kinda like the early Cammillus Neckers.......At about this time Ka-Bar bought the marking laser.....I was bitching piteously to John Stitt and he said ...With the new Laser we can grind all the way up and I replied "HOT DAMN" or words to that effect.........The Ka-Bar version of the Necker has, in my most humble opinion, a virtually perfect blade geometry for it's intended purpose......The laser marked blades duplicate this.......I see no real strength issues because I know how tough the Necker and Eskabars are and for a knife this short it is plenty tough enough.....My old Puma Hunters Friend, which I have always gone back to, even after I made my own knives has never in the hard use I have given both of them ever THOUGHT about busting......The "Pumaster" steel is not as tough (opinion here I am not about to tear the only "friend" I have up) .....I say this because i have a bunch of twist dings in the Puma and I have been a whole great big bunch tougher in testing the Ka-Bar Becker knives without similar damage..........

I am planning on putting my roll stamped 16s in the safe.....Only a couple of hundred made.....Well, I have a used roller and it will continue to get used.......

I have to say that I am probably gonna use the 16 to the exclusion of almost all of my collection......I use my Necker the most now and I keep thinking the 16 is almost here......I can't wait....

All Best...

ethan

I'm using them. Period. Not going to strip them. I want them now...! :D

I really wanted the FFG, if the frenzy dies down and they are still out there I may grab another.

I'll wait on the 15's tho.

Thanks for all the information Ethan. Really stoked about this. I think I'm gonna use mine, limited edition or not.
