I like the fancy stuff but don't buy any of it.

I am kind of in between. I can afford a couple of nice knives each year and limit myself to that. I don't purchase anything to collect, all of mine are users. I am not a steel snob though. I actually get more of a kick out of finding and great user at a better price. Its like I feel all expensive knives should be perfect so none of them surprise me, but finding a cheaper knife that is perfect for me is great.

I had a few less than spectacular relationships, that I didn't realize how lucky I was; that they were over, until a while after they were over (hinsight being much clearer :) )
I fortunate to find the woman I had a relationship with for 32yrs & was married to for 30yrs, at 1st she didn't quite understand the reason for all the different guns & knives, I asked her if she wore the same shoes & used the same purse every day, she said "of course not, different outfits require different accessories" I said same for shooting/hunting & outdoors activities, & that got an "Oh, I understand" she bought me some nice knives over the years & encouraged me to buy some guns so I could go hunting with some friends. She was a keeper unfortunately she passed away last year.

But, I agree with the concept; buy something nice for yourself if you can afford it, that 'someday' might not ever come after my wife's death I bought a couple of what I had considered impractical knives, an art damascus bowie it can be a user but with silver furniture & oosik handle not something I would use every day, but, I do pull it out to look at & enjoy the beauty of the blade.

Enjoy.

Jerry, I'm really sorry to hear about your wife as she sounded like a great woman. My girlfriend is similar to how you say your wife was so I can appreciate what you said. I've been on a big kick lately to find affordable yet high quality knives, and I've found a virtual treasure trove of them. I recently discovered Moras (awesome blades), got my first real Spyderco (the limited Delica Flat Ground in blue, incredible knife for under $60), absolutely love the Cold Steel Bushman for a larger outdoor blade, and last but not least, bought a Gerber EZ Out 3.5" bladed one hand folder last month and it is simply the best overall folder I've ever owned and only cost $27 shipped on Amazon and made in USA. Sold my Benchmade 551 Grip because it was a better overall folder if that gives you an idea.
