I love the axis lock... but hate the Omega springs.

The MPR isn't going to fail

I'm glad you have confidence in your knife. I would too, but keep in mind though, ANYTHING mechanical can fail.

But I agree, the MPR is a very well constructed little power house of a knife that should last a lifetime and then some with proper use and care.

Such a small piece but seems to be the weak part of the axis lock system. You think they would come up with a spring or some other part that would be close to impossible to break.

We can call the knife filthy, but understand that the lint you see is located in the hidden compartment that houses the springs. There is no way to clean that without taking the knife apart and voiding the watranty. Furthermore, after wiping everything down and cleaning it, I did not find any rust. Just clean metal. Springs break due to fatigue. It is just a fact of life. Not all mass produced springs are perfect, but to the human eye they all look the same. It is a hard thing to QC.

If you plan to carry and use an axis lock knife, expext that compartment to get dirty. You can try washing the knife with soapy water, then wd-40, then oil, but that compartment will still be dirty. You really need to void the warranty to clean that spot...

I find that compressed air does the trick, no need to disassemble or even loosen the pivot.

I don't want to revive this thread, but I should share my experience. I sent my 484 to BM for warranty service, it came back within 9 calendar days (< 7 business days). BM fixed the springs, lubed the pivot and sharpened the blade. I recall the secondary grind was slightly uneven when it left me, it came back perfectly even. Hope that info helps those who are on the fence about the axis lock.

I'm guilty of flicking my benchmades when I'm bored and have gone through enough springs myself. It's silly that they don't send. We should have the option to void our warranty to get some. I started making my own. I ordered some .022 music wire from amazon and use a round nose pliers to make the bends. You can find some nifty tools at craft stores to make the bends you need. I'm going to try .024 to make it a little stiffer but .022 is really close to factory.
