i love the enduras throw the kershaws in the trash

i'm quite happy with the entire situation--shows that people are intensely interested in knives. i remember the early days when everyone swore by case & practically said prayers to case pocketknives. my tests in the 70s showed them to be marginal cutters. a blisterpack colonial would outcut the top of the line case. in the old knife circles case is the most collected knife in the world with remington a close 2nd. remingtons were legendary for cutting ability in the pre 1980 period & no wonder since whom knows of heattreating metals better than a gun co. a number of steels are needed to make guns with most of them requiring different heattreats.consider the years of springs & bearing surfaces that need to perform ; sometimes in a thousanth of a second. it was reported by retired case employees that blades went out at 53 rockwell because this makes a blade harder to break however a big sacrifice in edge holding. about 1990 or a little later i used a case copperlock to skin 2 mule deer & noticed the blades seemed to be much harder since they cut much longer. whatever is the science behind case heattreat is'nt important because the knives have such a strong collector following i do'nt beleive any brand will ever shade them.by testing the new kershaw out of the box before using the edgepro we can determine if these knives are subject to the same defect shared by many others of different manufacture. it seems it's common that factories overheat the small edge area either by grinding or heattreat. this has came up over & over in the forum where members reported a seemingly better edge holding after wearing away the original few ten thousanths from factories & then reprofiling the bevel. we'll see what we can tell in the next coupal of weeks from myself & certainly in the months ahead , our commercial fisherman can also chime in.--dennis

There should be a couple of polls done - one for dissatisfied Kershaw owners and another for who gives a crap about Dennis' opinion.

I suspect both polls will have one side with a single vote. Assuming Dennis votes.

I own a JYD with composite blade (CPM D2 cutting edge), and I must confess that after I put on a mirror edge, I was disappointed. I then consulted with other forumites, and found out that CPM D2 ain't regular D2. Anyhow, I resetted the edge to a more aggresive one and it worked fine. I wonder if Dennis also put mirror edge on his CPM D2 blade.

what were you using to put a mirror edge on the blade?

Spyderco ceramic whetstone extra fine grit. The one that came in the black box. First, I used a coarse DMT diamond whetstone, followed by japanese whetstone (medium grit), after that my beloved Norton Indian whetstone (fine grit), Spyderco ultra fine ceramic whetstone (came in a black box), and leather strop. I could push cut paper very easily, but when I went to a more abbrasive medium (carboard, paracord, etc.) I could noy cut it effectively. I guess I must have picked the wrong edge type when I decided to sharpened it.

Now I sharpen my JYD only up to medium grit Japanese whetstone, go straight to the leather strop, cuts like laser now :D

Ah yes, the "Internet Effect."

Alien life did come to visit Earth...then they accessed the internet and decided Earth wasn't worth it!:D

what's scary is that a lot of internet traffic gets beamed between continents via satellite, and the spillover leaks off into space.

I'd hate for first contact with aliens to be tubgirl or something.

i don't really like micro bevel, so i'd rather stick to medium grit and go to leather :D

theres nothing wrong with kershaws and plenty of people prefer them to spyderco simply for them not having big holes in the blade (like me) mind you one of my fav EDC knives is a spyderco centofante 3 but other than that 1 knife i really dont care for them great knives just not my cup of tea

me, im the exact opposite, i love the design and ergonomics of spyderco knives. it's nice that we have choices to pick great knives (and companies) that suit us best. i will admit, alot of kershaw's recent models have great designs. two of their soon to be released knives are on my must buy list.

p.s. one of my spyderco's is a centofante 3, great gents folder IMO.

yeah i have probably just as many kershaws as i do spydercos i just tend actually carry my BM ritter grip more than anything.. both companies have similar build quality/fit finish its pretty much only aesthetic differences
