lol
judging 3-4 knives from a company and testing them on ropes and paper etc is hardly representative (especially one that makes over 100 different knives) of that company
making broad statements that are fairly derogatory in nature does nothing but create undue bias and hurts said company unduly
what if i said
( i bought a benchmade and it was dull and off center they suck) now what do you think people not as educated as you or I will think? "bad company don't buy from them"
dennis knew exactly what he was doing when he made this thread and what effect they would have on the community.. trying to backtrack and say he doesnt have any new exp with their new knives or that its just his opinion or now he needs to do some testing from 3rd parties is just double talk and damage control for getting caught out there
i bet theres at least one post on EVERY one of the big brands spyderco kershaw sog benchmade emerson etc where the knife was dull off centered etc... guess what? it happens .... not every single knife is hand tested by the friggin owner of the company before ship out... thats what customer service is for send it back get a new one talk to them im sure more than likely it was a fluke and the company will repair/replace it and telling people to throw out their knives based on one sour grapes occurrence is just wrong.. if i was a mod i would have just deleted the thread altogether based on the title and TS first post... theres no need for such talk without proof and even then say it like an adult not a disgruntled child
I hardly "test" knives on "ropes and paper." I probably put a pocket knife through more cutting in a day than most people do in a month. I cut stuff a lot tougher than cardboard, paper, sisal rope, toilet paper or hair...I have dulled a S30V Military in 2 cuts of high performance commercial fishing rope.
Kershaw doesn't really need you to defend them. Their product speaks for itself. People will either buy the knives, like them, and recommend them, or they will buy the knives, not like them, and not recommend them.
Personally I have stayed away from Kershaw's upper end knives. Some of the grinds and blade shapes were too funky for me...The JYD II is a great knife but an Endura can be had for the same price and with more of the features I prefer. I will recommend a Spyderco over Kershaw, Benchmade, Cold Steel, etc, because Spyderco uses certain features in their knives that I prefer in a folding knife. I like the opening hole, and I like fully serrated knives. Does that make Spyderco a better company or a better knife than Kershaw? To me it does. because they have a hole in the blade, which I prefer, and offer fully serrated knives, which i prefer.
That said, the sharpest, smoothest opening knife I have ever owned out of the box was a Kershaw 2415. The knife opened like a switchblade and was as sharp as a straight razor.
And FWIW, Dennis didn't start this thread. It was started by a moderator who snipped the off topic posts from another thread and started a new one. He titled the thread directly out of Dennis' post. The other thread was, if I remember, about a composite leek and an endura. I'm too lazy to search out a link for you.
ETA- stay safe on the street. i come from a family of police officers. chill out, enjoy the night with your son, you get enough stress at work that you don't need it when you are relaxing on bladeforums.
