I love the flamboyant colors of knives nowadays.

I was getting sick of all these military tactical knives that are camouflage design colors. As a collector more so then a user I very much love the color and designs for today's knives. They give off the right kind of impression that I want to give. I don't want to meet someone and them think I'm some crazy survivalist that is prepping for Armageddon. With the style of knives I like I feel like I'm able to pull one out in front of a girl for a simple mundane task and have less judgement from it.

Its like when video games and toy guns started looking too much like the real deal. Well incidents happened from that and today anything that looks like a gun usually has some type of design to distinguish itself from a real gun mainly for safety reasons.

Well these knives instead of looking like a tactical combat killing tool looks more like a toy and probably gives a better impression in the impression that I want to give.

I mean if you knew you lived next to someone in the middle of the city no woods, no hunting grounds any where near by and the guy had the most ridiculous quantity of guns in his apartment then you would start getting your own opinions from it. Sure the guy owns them all legally and sure may never even have a thought of using them with negative intentions, that doesn't mean he won't get negative impressions.

I can't reply to any type of video games. I never owned one, had one in my home or watched one! Growing up, reading/studying history and being a young lady who paid attention to various WARS on the news was enough for me. Plus being married to a decorated Nam Veteran as a young lady until I was 51 years old when he died.

Paying attention to the DAILY news and my own surroundings... who needs a video game for that?!

The only toy gun IF you want to call it that NAME that I ever owned was what I bought in my late 40's and that was after I owned about 15 or so guns. Two 1938 Red Ryder replica rifles. They got gifted before I moved out west. Personally I hate the word TOY guns... guns are guns no matter what they shoot. You should be careful in using them.

Plus the idiots who POINT 'toy' pistols AND other realistic 'toy' guns at military people and at other people including peace officers should NOT be doing that unless they plan on getting hurt in the process. Suicide by cop? Like the planned crime with the potential murdering, nut job who was armed and who knew exactly what he was doing in the news yesterday?

Different strokes for different folks. Some men and women like the military knives. Me? I do not own one but I know some people who do and they LOVE what they own. My Montana husband had an old Nam era one (Military - AF pilot survival knife.) and he recently sold it. My late husband owned a few but they were standard issue military types of knives. Nam era and on. Those NY made stainless steel - year marked Camillus folding ones. Not some Rambo knife either. I am not knocking men/women who like Rambo knives.

You may need another lady friend (Or any other friend.) if she judges you on what type of knife you own or what color it is. I would seriously be concerned about a friend who was/is afraid of an inanimate OBJECT or tool myself unless the owner of said tool or THING threatened me with it.

As far as some crazy survivalist goes, yes, there are some nut jobs out there but lumping ordinary prepared people into one lump THING (Surviving a crisis or not.) does not cut it either.

Most common sense, intelligent and sane Prepared People are not thinking of the END TIMES or a bunch of that other STUFF (Zombie garbage.) that many religious zealots and prepping extremists are dwelling on!

Moderation in life and in all things works for me. Ordinary prepared people are thinking about year round REAL weather related emergencies no matter WHERE they live, man-made ones, buying on sale, financial matters, retirement, fake/real and manipulated shortages, etc.

I will admit that after reading some OTHER forums out there on the WWWeb... there are a bunch of winners (Not!) out there in la la land.

Now, the last paragraph of your post got me too.

Your words not mine. The MOST RIDICULOUS QUANTITY OF GUNS and getting your own opinions about that. Hhhmmm.

What would it matter to YOU if the man lived in the city, suburbs, country or super rural-boonies when it came to his private property be it in guns or any other thing? What would it matter if the man did or did not hunt?

I do not hunt but I am into self defense issues. I used to compete, plink a lot and I was a high volume shooter especially in handguns in various calibers. I owned LESS rifles in my life. And I mean a HIGH volume shooter like some of my friends were and still ARE in their lives. Past tense when it comes to shooting a LOT and handguns. I shoot a few rifles now to keep up my basic skills and self defense training.

Would you judge the man on how many knives he owned or books that he owned or if he had more than one 50 round box of ammunition for each caliber of his handguns or rifles? What about if he owned, gasp, more than 2 BULK boxes of 22lr ammunition?

Sorry you lost me when it came to caring what SOMEONE ELSE, female or male, thinks or even cares what your personal KNIFE LOOKS LIKE. NO offense.

Now, if you LIKE specific colors, styles, brands and looks of some knives - buy them, use them and enjoy them. But don't BUY something just because you are so concerned about what someone else THINKS about your knife or you owning/carrying it.

Me? I like fixed blades and traditional styles at this stage of my life and due to my own hand issues.

I like and MISS using my former Buck 55 and Buck 110 folding knives but my husband owns and uses them now. I have other NICE FB knives that I can use well and I enjoy them.

I don't CARE if someone does NOT like fixed blades... I carry what suits me, fits my HANDS and I am always concerned about what I carry and use in a knife LEGALITY WISE just as I was when I carried and owned my now former handguns and a few rifles. Open and conceal carry.

I guess that I did not care or give a 'hoot' about what people thought about what I OWNED and USED as a young lady or even now at 65 years old. I do not need approval of a friend or a husband on any tool that I use or what I wear or enjoy in life.

I may want their advice and OPINION but I do not need their approval because what I LIKE, enjoy and suits ME may not work for them.

To each their own!

Enjoy using your knives! Take care.

Um, okay then.

Then why all the SHOUTING?

Hey, the guy likes what he likes. He's not looking for your approval and you are not looking for his.

As far as more "flamboyant" color schemes...look at traditionals. There always has been and continues to be less-than-subtle color combos on the scales. Nothing new.

I tried to type something funny, I tried to type something helpful. Too much fail in the OP. Buying Knives in pretty colors to impress strangers, and girls. Silly is the nicest way I can put that.

There's nothing wrong with being aware of others' perceptions/opinions. It's just being socially conscious of your affect on others. You can choose to live your life in a way that is subtle, or loud (or anywhere in-between). If you choose the loud way, be aware that you will attract attention. You are also in control of what type of attention that is. Really, life is about choosing or not choosing to do what is expected/appropriate/acceptable/"normal" in any given situation, and your intent in doing so.

You can please all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time.

Edited to add, re: OP: I think that the "flamboyant" designs do much to spread the knife attraction to others, who may be more apprehensive about the more tactical designs. I say, let's spread the joy! The more people who like knives, the better.:D

Wow, this thread is kind of a mess, isn't it?

For what it's worth, I'm always happy when knife companies offer something other than black or grey. I like it even more when they branch out beyond the standby 'tactical' colors like coyote brown, olive drab and such and actually offer yellow, red, blue and other, more vibrant colors. Variety and choice is always nice.

I like carrying 4"+ folders, so when I whip it out, people are amazed and want to touch it!

Buy and carry what you like. To each their own.

Of course, if you take your concerns to the next logical step, you shouldn't carry ANY knife at all, because there are a lot of irrational people who will form a negative impression of ANY carried knife, and the person carrying it. If your desire is to avoid any and all people forming negative impressions of you, you shouldn't carry ANY knife.

Making personal choices based on the irrational impressions of others is a sacrifice of personal freedom. Trying to conform to the irrational fears and impressions of others might give you some sense of comfort, but at what cost? At some point you're no longer living your life for you, but instead you're living it for them. And to me that doesn't sound like any life at all.

I don't care what irrational people think. I don't live my life based on the impressions of irrational people. I don't let the irrational fears of others affect my choices. I live my life, and choose my knives, based on personal desire, and the irrational perceptions of others never factors into it.

In my opinion, anyone who would judge me based on the color of my knife is an idiot. I don't care to have such idiots in my life, nor am I required to have them in my life. So I couldn't care less what such idiots think.

Two things, first while I like knives with beautiful colorful handles, the ones that have both blade and handle in toxic green/orange/purple or some other crazy color scheme make it look like a toy and not a dangerous sharp tool that can hurt or maim its user if they don't handle it with care and respect. If it looks too much like a toy it will be treated by average user as a toy! This will result in new idiotic law's that make it illegal to have any knife with sharp edges, designed to over protect average foolish user!

Second, putting "scull and bones", and names like "killer, assassin, ninja" etc on everything just to sell more knives to mall ninjas will result in short term gain and long term loss for knife industry and community as whole! I wish knife makers and manufactures would stop doing it! To average cop or a judge regular plain kitchen knife or legal size folder is a tool, but same knife painted with "scull and bones" on blade with giant "Assassin" name written on it, is a deadly weapon of knife maniac who goes around cutting people everywhere! So while you may not care about what another civilian thinks of your knife "war paint" you should be very concerned what it looks like to law enforcers, they have no sense of humor when it comes to knives!

Look at Great Eastern Cutlery. In addition to them being "friendly" slipjoints, them make many with multicolored acrylic scales.

You got that right, fella! I used to dismiss acrylic covers in favour of natural materials but, after actually trying one, I have to admit they are not only interesting to look at, they can also be of high quality and are reasonably durable. I'd buy more, fo' sho'!:cool:

Ok guys I just came back from tactical gear store where they had a decent knife collection. I got to check out and hold and play with lots of knives I been looking at. Sadly I didn' buy anything. I knew all the knives can be had online for cheaper. As much as I would like to support local over online I can't be foolish on my budget to do such a thing.

Anyway when I asked about the rat 2 he said he didn't have any for my color but I seen pink right there but he brought up a conversation about how some guys like pink so then I was too embarrassed to show interest in it and asked to see the black one instead. He was asking $35 plus tax which would have been like almost $40 I can get it brand new on ebay for $27 shipped to my house so can't do that.

Same with a bear and son balisong knife he had. It was cheaper to get the same one online. Also I got to test it. No offense to any one that has them but I thought it sucked for flipping. I saw he had over oiled them and they still were too tight to flip. So skip that for $50 bucks.

Almost bought a Chinese knock off of the microtech UTX 70 for $20 bucks. Was neat but a little too unpractical.

I guess I knew too much about knives to buy anything. I think the guy working there realized the same lol.
