I love the flamboyant colors of knives nowadays.

Sometimes an opinel is nice and discreet though and the right tool for the task. I wouldn't want to use a zt 301 as a picnic knife.

In response to the original post, I'm not sure handle color alone is enough to make most intimidating knives unintimidating. It seems most knives that come in bright reds and yellows happen to also be traditional slip joints.

I knew enough that I could get every knife he had on blade play or blade HQ, ebay for cheaper. Like exact models.

To me someone who buys from that shop and so calls them self a knife enthusiast must like paying more money for the same thing. Other wise if you actually did you're research you can get it cheaper.

Example Pink rat 2 at his shop $34.99 + 8% sales tax. MSRP retail

ebay same knife $27.29 shipped to your door. No driving a 30 minute drive one way like I did to this store. Really a waste. You want to support locally and spend more for the samthing go ahead.

Everything in is store could be had through online retailers for cheaper. Exact models. I mean if you're too lazy to do the research or not savvy enough to order online I guess.

Sooooo....

You drove 60 minutes round trip to fondle some knives and not buy anything.
Let's say you are driving a vehicle that gets 20mpg.
Let's say you were driving 60mph average.
Let's say gas is $2.50/gal
That would mean you drove 60 miles and used 3 gallons of gas. Which would cost $7.50.

Let's do more math.

The Pink Rat 2 was $34.99 + 8% sales tax, which equals: $37.79
The same knife on the auction site costs $27.29 shipped to your door.
An overall difference of $10.50
Since you've already spent $7.50 in gas, you can add that to the cost of the auction site knife, which would be $34.79...
So you're going to save $3 and have to wait for the knife to show up at your door.

That is illogical.::foot:

When you get there the gas is already spent and gone.

You're still saving $37.79 to $27.29 by going home and ordering it. Which is a 28% savings. Genius..

And this isn't figuring in the other costs of owning a vehicle like insurance or wear and tear. But hey, the OP is smart enough to already figure that out. He's a knife guy

Yeah I recently picked up a knife with yellow handles, didn't like it too much at first, but I wouldn't change it now.

Though I'd avoid anything a bright orange, i like orange, but dislike bear grilis (spelling) looking tools.

Again illogical the insurance is already paid for and same thing with wear and tear that is no different then the guys gas example. Those things already took place. What's not smart to me is paying 28% more when you're talking about resources that were already used. When I can go home and get it for 28% less. No matter what you do you used those resources already once you got there the insurance, the gas, the wear and tear. What's smart to me at the point is not paying 28% more just to have it the same day. When I can have it next week for 28% less. I suppose if you needed the tool the same day to ya know use as a tool not stare at then that would be very logical but I guess we have different views on logic.

Sorry kid, but you are showing you know absolutely nothing about transportation costs. Maybe check out the federal transportation reimbursement rate. Read up. Learn a little something. If you ever had a good enough job to warrant such POV reimbursement I would love to see you deny it since "them there costs is already paid fur".

And yes, we do have different views on logic. Very different views.

Actually, if ten bucks is a big deal to you, then maybe you shouldn't be buying knives in the first place. Also, every knife shop that closes, does so because timewasters like you suck them dry. I mean, it's one thing if a shop was charging $50 for a RAT 1. Who would buy that? But acting like you're some super economic master because you essentially stole time from that employee, only to go home and order a knife which isn't that much cheaper (certainly not worth bragging about it in a cretinous way like you're doing here), is just...well, it makes you look bad. I mean, you saved ten bucks just so you could come in here and act superior about having wasted a shop employee's time. Wow, go you.

Maybe if you spent less on pot, you'd have more money for knives. Also, please don't talk about being smart about capitalism, when it's clear that you didn't see the value in that employee's time. Lastly, from the way you're posting, something tells me that you don't factor in travel costs, because you were riding in your mom's car.

I own a 2014. I'm guessing it's because I care about $10 dollars. Also wasn't wasting the shop owners time. I was looking for deals cheaper then online. Didn't find none. Like I said I'm not paying extra to support a shop that I don't care if was there tomorrow.

I would spend an extra 10 bucks to help out a small knife store opposed to a large Internet knife selling company.

I probably overpaid 50 bucks to buy my 1st sebenza even though bladehq sells em cheaper.
I was happy there was even a knife store!
Plus I can't walk out of a knife store empty handed...

Truly the words of a non knife-enthusiast, and a pretty poor...whoops, can't write what I was going to write, that's a one way ticket to Red Card City for sure.

You're going to be a tremendous asset for this place.

^I dig that purple Delica, savage99... kind of a grape bubblegum colour. Been tempted to pick one up or maybe one of the Sprint Dragonfly 2s. But I'm a big fan of the Delica anyway and would buy 'em all if I could! :D

I'm going to pretend this thread isn't a train-wreck and attempt to give a serious reply...

I like colorful handles on knives. I own a lot of them, and one of my longest EDCs is a pink Spyderco Native. There were a few reasons I got it:

1) Money went towards breast cancer research
2) I like the way it looked
3) I thought people would be less intimidated by it than my other knives

For point three, it was very true. People would comment on my cute knife, or laugh when I was using it instead of reproaching me, or giving me sidelong glances.

However, there was one disadvantage with colorful knives...they stand out. People are more likely to notice my pink knife than my black/gray/etc.

I don't hide my knives, but I don't like announcing to strangers that I have one.

One thing I did with my Pacific Salt was to RIT dye the end so it wasn't obvious to the world.

Dye job on the part peeking out?

Reminds me of a bizarro Kilroy.
