I love the flamboyant colors of knives nowadays.

I guess I knew too much about knives to buy anything. I think the guy working there realized the same lol.

Au contraire, you don't know as much as you think you know.

What have you been doing for the last 4 years on this forum?

Point being, I don't care what people think. If I was worried about what the masses would think, I'd carry some baby blue safety scissors.

LOL I'm sure this is true but the whole "when I whip it out people want to touch it." part. ;)

Just lurking. :naughty emoticon: :p

Then you already know that that particular emoticon is a no-no in General... ;)

On topic, Rough Rider also produces a rainbow of slipjoints and lockbacks that are also inexpensive, but well-liked by some in the traditionals subforum.

Ok guys I just came back from tactical gear store where they had a decent knife collection. I got to check out and hold and play with lots of knives I been looking at. Sadly I didn' buy anything. I knew all the knives can be had online for cheaper. As much as I would like to support local over online I can't be foolish on my budget to do such a thing.

Anyway when I asked about the rat 2 he said he didn't have any for my color but I seen pink right there but he brought up a conversation about how some guys like pink so then I was too embarrassed to show interest in it and asked to see the black one instead. He was asking $35 plus tax which would have been like almost $40 I can get it brand new on ebay for $27 shipped to my house so can't do that.

Same with a bear and son balisong knife he had. It was cheaper to get the same one online. Also I got to test it. No offense to any one that has them but I thought it sucked for flipping. I saw he had over oiled them and they still were too tight to flip. So skip that for $50 bucks.

Almost bought a Chinese knock off of the microtech UTX 70 for $20 bucks. Was neat but a little too unpractical.

Okay.

Then how come the emoticon is on the site. It's not my own. It's the default one under advanced options.

See where it says W&C only? Maybe you should go post some of this stuff over there. I think you'd be a real hit!

I knew enough that I could get every knife he had on blade play or blade HQ, ebay for cheaper. Like exact models.

To me someone who buys from that shop and so calls them self a knife enthusiast must like paying more money for the same thing. Other wise if you actually did you're research you can get it cheaper.

Example Pink rat 2 at his shop $34.99 + 8% sales tax. MSRP retail

ebay same knife $27.29 shipped to your door. No driving a 30 minute drive one way like I did to this store. Really a waste. You want to support locally and spend more for the samthing go ahead.

Everything in is store could be had through online retailers for cheaper. Exact models. I mean if you're too lazy to do the research or not savvy enough to order online I guess.

Wow! Thanks for that top tip. Any other nuggets of joy you would like to share?

Seriously kid, what is it exactly you are doing here? I would advise that you take a break from starting multiple new threads a day and go back to lurking a bit more. Get a better feel for the place. Right now you are acting like a bull in a China shop.

I have bought many knives from brick & mortar knife shops, and happily paid more than internet prices for the privilege.

I like being able to handle and inspect knives in person before making the decision to buy (internet research and Youtube videos have limited value). I also like not having to wait days or weeks to get a knife, worry about it getting lost or stolen during shipping, or having to ship it back to the seller if there was something wrong with the knife or if they sent me the wrong knife.

In the case of one local shop (Wright Knives, Mr. Wright was a member here) I enjoyed talking with the owner as he was a friendly guy who knew a lot about knives. I was unhappy when his store closed. I guess maybe too many people came into his shop, fondled his knives, then went home and ordered them for a little less money on the internet.

I'm happy to pay $10 or $20 more for a knife if it means I get all the benefits I just described. In fact, I'm willing to pay even more than that.

I guess I'm just not a "savvy" knife buyer.

If you like paying more money for those reasons then by all means keep doing it. I like saving money for my reasons. Personal preference.

Someone told me earlier in another thread I need to learn capitalism more I didn't understand. Well if the internet can monopolize a industry that is capitalism.

I don't know my local employes I can really care less about supporting locally. Capitalism.

LOL I'm sure this is true but the whole "when I whip it out people want to touch it." part. ;)

Playing with words is always fun, but I had a point behind it. I'd rather have a really neat knife that people think is cool/interesting, rather than have some dinky Opinel. Don't get me wrong, Opinel's have their place, but it doesn't make me or anyone else go OoOOo-AaaAAhhhh! The point is, there are people that frown upon ANY knife, so screw them. I can't count how many conversations I've had when I've whipped out a huge 4" folder or a nice custom fixed blade.

If someone whipped out one of my grail knives, I would most definitely want to touch it!

Agreed.
