thats one heck of a Swiss army knife your friend carries garryale. i carry one daily in my pocket, but its much simpler with far less "gadgets" on it. mine has 2 blades, a can opener, a bottle opener with a straight screwdriver, some tweezers(the handiest option of all), and a toothpick
Yes you are right .
It is Swiss army knife , very populare in Europe and in Russia too.
 
That I believe is Zebra Wood, the wood of Microberlinia, also known as Zebrano, It is imported from Central Africa, (Gabon, Cameroon, and Congo).

I have suggested this wood as a handle material for the Buck Custom Shop on other threads in this forum
