I made... something.

Been following this and I can say dang it looks killer, cant wait to see the handle shaped up.

Thanks, J. I am amazed by the chopping power of this thing. I can't wait to finish it up!!!
If you cut with a hybrid "gurkha snap"/ draw cut you can cut some pretty big saplings with one shot. Parang lading and real Indo goloks are no joke.

The curvature of the blade, the weight, the gleaming edge; this thing owns the cut like a lazer beam... Can't wait for the end result!

More progress on the handle today... it still needs a lot of thinning out, but I couldn't resist putting a little oil on there for a sneak peak at the wood.

Nice handle shape. A trick for seeing what the grain looks like without gettin clogged sandpaper from the oil-use denatured alchohol. It shows the grain and color, evaporated quickly and only raises the grain a tiny bit.

If you take your time and get the handle perfect you will be swinging that thing for hours...if there is anything left to cut. With that convex edge and the shape, it will do a lot of damage to anything you take a dislike too. Really looking like a seriously fun project and once you are done you will HAVE to name it.

I tested the cutting prowess a bunch before I started on the handle. I am lucky to have friends with an amazing array of tools, so I shouldn't have a problem finishing up the handle. I made the mistake of making the handle slabs too thick to start so I have wasted a lot of time thinning them down. It went through a small palm tree with the weakest of effort, and chopped ridiculously deep on a PT pine 4x4 at full force.

I think I already have a good name in mind for it.:D

13" blade, 6" handle, and shooting for about 25-27 oz.

Still torn on how to pants it.

Cougar, panther, puma, whatever! I like kitties too much for that. I like pythons too much, too. Gators, on the other hand...

This was also forged from a leaf spring and has an 8.25" blade, and a 6.5" handle with bronze hardware and jatoba scales. Convex ground with a tapered tang and a pry/bottle opener extending out of the bottom of the handle. You can shave with it, or chop down a tree with it.:D
