I made... something.

lol almost nobody recognizes it, but, gene wolfe is( hands down) the best author ever, anywhere , for any reason. I am still impressed by the complexity of the books of the new sun and books of the long sun. JW do you think you could fill a giant executioner's sword with mercury and carve a womans face on one edge and man's face on the other? needs to be about 6 feet long and able to decapitate easily.

I could make you one 12" long that would decapitate easily LOL-not messing with the mercury though... I'm weird enough already thanks...
Philll-some pics of the little ten ounce parang lading I made in '96 or so and carried @10th Mtn...

I finished up the handle on mine last night...

Very nice. My first knife looked like it came outta Rikers Island. That blade from Jay is nice. What is it called? The little saberlike ones are Parang Nabur, but that's a new one to me.

Not sure the exact name. Here is what Jay said about it: "The parang is one of a kind. It was made in Sarawak, west
Malaysia. The last batch of smith-made before the quality went down. Wood is Serian."

Maybe he will see this in a couple hours and chime in. Still a bit early over there :D

nice, would love to have gotten more blades from sarawak before it became commercial

Looks like a really good fit for your hand. All in all it looks way more like a knife than like a slab of metal. So for a first knife, I consider that aawesome. Either you have some talent or good mentoring, possibly both :D Seriously it looks great. Are you hooked? Going to be building out your own forge?

That is freaking sick man, I love it, I bet it will chop a house down. Great job

Grats Phillll! Love it! Looks even bigger in the hand! How about a close up of the makers mark:thumbup:

No plans for a forge at my house in the near future. I'm too close to Zack and his forge. It's sort of like having a friend with a boat. :D

Oh! I forgot to tell y'all the name I chose:

The De-limber

Good for removing limbs, tree or otherwise.

it really is a great looking knife, just the style I like with the parang look, no point, just a brutish chopper

Any ideas for a maker's mark?

The handlebar mustache mark has already been done, need something else...

needs to be about phil-- who is phil , also a very easy thing you can do is make and anagram of your name using your initials -- like the original christian symbol of constantine is an anagram of P and X and another letter-- you get the idea, just mash the letters together in one spot and it comes out looking interesting

The light brusher that Phil got is Parang Borneo. As the samples from the region could tell you more about it (the one in the middle):

However, this is what most Malaysians (tada......and that # is ever increasing!) salivate for:
