I managed to cut myself again, this time with my bk9. (warning grossish pics)

You better watch it buddy! I can still use my 9 with my right hand!

Umm....Isn't that video depicting what happens when you use your 9 with your right hand? Don't worry Cobra, looks like you're safe! LOL

Sorry, couldn't resist. Glad you're OK Cap'n. Ya gotta apply at least one of the basic safety rules of shooting with that 9; never point it at anything you don't plan on destroying. :)

That was a pretty good cut. Dont care for the dr's stitching. Might scar up pretty good.

Yikes!...glad you're okay. excellent job bringing the camera to the hospital and using it.

oh yeah, the bathing suit never happened(lack of pics).....you were in a pant suit instead.:)

Is Airyca old enough for you guys to be talking about her bathing suit? I won't make any bathing suit and girls with knives comments unless I know I am not sounding like a pedophile. :).

Duh, she is Eleventeen......

nice boo boo :) make sure to keep the bactine on it :>

now, i can only imagine what full force batoning might have done... eek.

i'm going to assume that her bones are extra tough, and this is a warning to respect her or else :D

Moosez said it pretty well, but I'll echo bits.

...Lots of stuff he said I agree with...

THANK GOD THAT YOU'RE OK!!

...More stuff I agree with, and here comes the important part...

please, please, please, don't do that again. That's begging right there, in case you didn't notice.

Moose

I agree with that.

Short story and philosophy lesson (from prof. Hewhoisiam):

I wore myself out in the last zombie contest, making that shield out of processed trees. I had a hard time #1 taking water breaks every 20-30 mins (101 degrees with 45 percent humidity) and 2# being CAREFUL knowing that I'm tired, hot, and dehydrated.

Now, now, I'm not tryin to play some sort of ill-fated superiority card. (I've seen you cut things with the 9, I'd rather not be in it's path) I'm just saying be as mindful as you (or anyone, for that matter) can of what you're using and how you're using it. I don't hesitate to tell you all that I'm afraid of my knives. Yes fear. I know how sharp they are, I know the guy who sharpened them, and I know what they can do. So for me it's fear and respect. Always. I've never had stitches, but I have some pretty good scars because I've never had stitches. All from getting a case of the dumb. The good news is I don't cut myself anymore.

Glad you're okay, sorry to hear boutcher luck.

I'm guessing you"ll strongly evaluate where your blade is at in relation to your body parts after this one. I know I think more about it after mine.

@ original poster/post

auwie!! that looks familiarly painful! I got to love the swinging a BK9 around in a bathing suit part hahaha. It reminds me of my three stitches bite my BK7 gave me when I was splitting wood and watching South Park....my stupid fault cuz both deserve my full attention. I walked with my hand in my mouth to my brother and asked if he had ‘’something to do because I needed stitches’’. I instantly grapped my camera to make a few pics. The couch, stairs and bathroom were full of blood. Its really impressive to see first hand (;)) how the emergency room took good care of it. its somewhere on the forum, i try to link it.

Luckily we both kept our finger! How is it healing up?

Glad you got to keep the finger while learning this lesson. Sometimes we can get too confident and comfortable with our knives and how we use them. There may come a time that we have to use them when tired, dehydrated, cold, hungry, and lack focus. Still, we have to pay attention, or things can get worse.
I have been tired and very hot while using a machete. It got my attention when it bounced off my boot, that was close! May we enjoy our knives while keeping our bodies in tact.

indeed. I remember when i was about 12, in the backyard with my machete (what? every 12 year old needs a machete and hatchet). I swung through a small hemlock sapling, bounced the blade off a branch, and had it fly directly down and back, into my right thigh, full on vertical. The ONLY thing that saved me from about a hundred stitches and a possible limp for the rest of my life was a SAK in my right pocket, that was sitting horizontally across my leg. The machete cut through the pants, and wedged itself into the SAK, preventing it from destroying my hamstring. Weird thing is, what I found funny when I was 12, scares the bejeesus out of me now. I've learned blade safety the hard way, but luckily have never needed stitches (or atleast never received them lol). That was definately my "bible that stopped the bullet" moment.

@ Haze240

thats a interesting SAK attribute/tool that is included in all the models, never found on the spec list but never wished to need by any of us.

You know that 'giving someone the finger' is just an expression, right? :D Hope your recovery is both speedy and complete! Thanks for having the presence of mind to share cool and gross(ish) pics with us.

When is the next Zombie contest and where do I sign up???

The poster is the toughest person I have ever met, Batons her finger with a 9 and only gets that? Ive done worst than that eating potato chips.

I didn't want to be the first to say it! LOL.
Being someone with a good amount of stitch marks on my hands...that there is a scar that will stick around for life. The center stitch is much to wide, and I would have added a fourth stitch. Seeing that he was being filmed, I would have put on a show of my stitching skills....I am sure it will be fine though.
Hopefully you don't have to much nerve damage..scares like that hurt when you get older...at least mine do.

Glad you made it through OK in the end. How old are you CA? I assume your 19-21ish. When I was 18 (many moons ago) I received a package in the mail! It was a western boot knife with a spring retention on the sheath. I had to mail order knives back then, no internet when I was your age! I was home alone and decided to test the sheaths retention. I started shaking the sheath with the knife in it...the knife came out of the sheath and hung in the air just long enough for me to come back down and pin 2 fingers together with this brand new boot knife.
After I pulled the knife out, I drove myself to the hospital while sitting on my hand wrapped in paper towels...that was a tough one for my young ego.
We didn't have cell phones back then either, so I couldn't reach my Mom to tell her not to freak out at all the blood in the house...so basically, it was a big mess for the whole evening.
Anyway, don't worry, keep on having a good time and enjoying your knives and the outdoors..its good for the soul.

In regards to the stitches, yes the center one is a little wide, but I forgive the guy, He was a little nervous about my mom taking pictures. I guessed he would do 4 stitches as well. I'll post pics when I take the stitches out, it seems to be healing pretty well. now that it isn't swollen as much I think won't be too bad of a scar. There is a small area on my finger above the cut that is definitely numb, my guess is that will be there for a while, it's just the skin on the surface, my finger is still functional :)

I'm 21, just so y'all know. I've cut myself with a bk7 once too when it slipped out of a sheath, so I can relate to your story :) I was at my boyfriends place, he was pretty upset, but I made him go to the grocery store and I just bought some superglue and some gauze and medical tape for that one :P I'm glad my mom was around for this one, I could have driven myself, but it was easier for her to do it so I could keep pressure on my finger because it kept trying to flap open!

Anywho, my finger is just about to the point where I can bend it normally, slowly of course, I don't need to be ripping stitches out, thanks everyone for your concern, I sure have learned a lesson this week.

Glad your healing up well Captain.
Just a quarter inch up and that would have struck the knuckle, that would have been much worse.
If it makes you feel any better I was clearing brush years ago with my camp knife which was a Kabar at the time, and my friend had a LARGE bowie that I borrowed for a big branch.
On the up swing I managed to strike myself in the thumb knuckle with my Kabar that I thought I was holding far out of my way, and I had to hike 5 miles back to transportation, to get back to somewhere to get it looked at..lol.
I was tired and in a hurry, and not being careful, I knew that I should have sheathed my knife while I was using his, but didn't think it was going to take long enough.
Learned a lesson there.
Hiking 5 miles bleeding like a stuck pig is no fun.

After seeing a couple people cut themselves pretty good I decided it was time to get some steri strips to have in my aid kit.

I drilled my finger one time when I was trying to make a swamp cooler for my hotrod. The drill bit slipped off what I was drilling and hit me in the finger tip. That was a couple years ago and I'm now finally starting to get most of the feeling back in my finger tip. It sux having no feeling in your finger tips. I couldn't feel what I was doing when I was trying to work on the truck.

Don't worry; the feeling should come back eventually. :D
