I owe a lot of money to a loan snark!

Belt thickness will matter also. I wear a 2" SOE riggers belt daily again and my medium(I think, Derek?) teklok won't fit.

Large Tek Lok, but I think you had shims on there. I don't remember. Standard large Tek Lock will accept a quarter inch thick belt, two and five-sixteenths wide.

Well I need to fix that then. I've been carrying my Magua without the teklok.

The small Tekloks are Garbage with a capital G. Or the original small ones were. I haven't seen if they have improved them.

The small teklok goes to 1.5" and isn't stupidly large. but if your belt is huge...

The monster requires a bit more restraint, lesser belts aren't up to the task.

Seriously, my old leather belt had lost it's sturdiness. I went back To my old SOE belt and forgot how much I loved it. I may get 9ne of the more narrow ones later.

Ya the small tekloks suck basket balls! They are identical to the large ones from bladetech but the hole layout is way off.

Have any of our custom makers ever done fillet knives? I'm wanting something better than the cheapies I have with less than great steel. I'm thinking something with a 6 to 7 inch blade and not a ton of flex with a steel that will hold an edge for a long time.

You seen the one James is doing? I betcha that one will hold an edge :D

Copied from his sub-forum

Annnnd a little teaser shot...

... this will be finished up in a day or two.

I use them exclusively as they are the right size for my knives and belts. No complaints on my end so far. yes, the hole pattern is different.

I have, as a matter of fact, just finished one up for my son who loves to fish. I have to be honest though, not something I particularly like to do. Getting the heat treat right on thin stock without it warping and allowing for the proper flex is nightmare. I'm sure its something that would get easier with reputition, but I've only made 4 or 5, its not something I do a lot of.

This thing really turned out great. The carbon fiber handles look amazing. I probably took 30 pictures trying to make them show up as nice as they really look, but my camera skills are lacking.

Anyway here she is in all her glory.

Bad ass man.

I love WillyDiggers beads so i asked if he could make me a stand for a glass tamper with his Villain skull design, here are the results.... Man has skills.

Thanks man!! Its a sweet knife, going to be hard to figure out a sheath for this one though. I was thinking behind the back like a sword... But then i pretended to be sheathing this monster behind my back and i could just visualize being drunk in the woods and slicing a gash in my neck or cutting an ear off trying to re-sheath the joker LOL

Its already cut me once.... its a razor. I didnt even notice the cut until blood dripped on the floor. And im still not sure when or how it got me  HAHA

I suppose working with such thin stock would be a pain in the butt. Do you have any pictures of the one you just made?

I found a MN maker that dies only fillet knives, but he doesn't list what steel he uses on his site. I suppose most people that get one from him wouldn't know the difference between 420j2 and elmax, but being a knife guy, I just gotta know!!!

It wants to flex around on ya when you put it against the wheel or platen, and being so narrow makes it easy to slip and "roll over" the edge or spine and foul things up real quick. There are tricks/ways around that, though. Frankly, I like working with thin stock for various reasons.

That's not a good sign

I'll probably email and ask. He has like 5 models that he does, but I searched the site and couldn't find a steel type listed. All it says is the steel is of the highest quality, free of defects and impurities, and has a hardness in the high 50s. It could be anything.

I hadn't thought about how easy Ikr would be to mess it up on the grinder. I bet the super pointy tips are tricky. I know just sharpening a flexible blade is a bit different.
