I propose a dual.... I am calling you leather benders out....

NICE JOB!

Exception work on the stitching. That's always where it goes to hell for me. I like the idea of putting the firesteel loop on the dangler.

Well done Tal! Clean lines, very subtle stamping, attention to detail throughout, can't ask for much more. I'm a big fan of the firesteel location on the dangler. It's surprising that this is the first time with Fiebings oil dye. What have you been using?

Beautiful sheath for a great cause.
Outstanding work Tal.
Thank you for donating your fine work & time to help little Hanna.

Well done professor! This has to be my favorite color you have used of all the lighter dyes. An I like the stamping. Not too much, it's more subtle.

I have always been draw to your sheaths. One day I hope to purchase a piece of your work to pair with one of Andy's wonderful knives.

Very nice work, Jason!

Are you planning on hanging out a shingle?

best

Rick,

I have been using Feibrings Mineral Spirit dye. Like it too - but this seems so much more buttery.

MQQN,

I did that for a year or so on this forum. I think I might put up some for sale as I make them. Andy is right - orders make your art into too much like work. ;)

Ok, never done any leather work but I have been feeling the urge to try and make a first time sheath. Kind of crazy but I want to post this so I am accountable. I am ordering leather today and will be furiously watching youtube videos all weekend. This is probably the best way---just jump in feet first! Whoa!!!

I use the mineral spirit dye, too, but add a little olive oil to it. Comes up with the same buttery look and feel. Either way, the oil really helps spread the dye more evenly. Perspective is a funny thing. I do leather full time and welcome the sheath orders as a relief from the "assembly line" work that pays the bills.

blaid-Good for you and welcome to another related field of interest! Any questions you have, give a shout and we'll try to help.

It was a coin toss about even posting this since Talfuchre kinda ruined it for everyone by making a beautiful and functional sheath. But I said I was doing it so here I am.

So here's my final product. It came out 'OK' for what I was expecting going in. I could have done a much better job on the edges and my stitching totally got screwed up on the back side (seriously I don't think I'll ever get how to do that right) but I'm glad I finally made this since it's been in my head for a while.

Low slung, crossdraw sheath. I wanted it to hang a bit lower on the belt...almost like a saber carry. (my bushfinger and a lady finger for size)

I've long thought about doing some skirting on the edge...and of course my dye started to soak into the strips. I'm kicking around the idea of dying the strips black now just to keep it all uniform

The little removable tin holder

How the tin slides in

The tin holder attached to the main sheath (a leather wrap just goes around and get's tied off on one end. I wanted this so if I wore the sheath on either side, I can attached the holder in the same orientation. I think my bushfinger with it's curly maple handle looks the best in it. It fits my ladyfinger real well also. A BIT too snug for the kephart though.

So there we go. It's entirely impractical for real use but I've got a box full of nice, functional sheaths (made by people more talented than I). This was an idea I've had in my head for a while and it was cool to get it out.

That is awesome dude.

My fav? The tin holder! I love that little thing.

I have been thinking about something similar for a Firesteel holder.

Hmmmmm....

Nice!

I'm late to the party! And I don't have a Fiddleback so I'll sit and watch. Great start though, it's one of the things about leather that I love. Even if you give 20 people the same leather, tools and dyes you will get 20 different sheaths, each with it's own personality, appearance and functionality. Heck most times I start with an idea and wen I'm done it has evolved into something that is a cousin of the original idea.

Awesome Idea Tal!

Forum member HWF sent me a few knives to play with (how cool is that?!), so to repay his generosity, i told him i would make sheaths for them. so, that will be my entry to this thread. though, i doubt i will get these all done by the end of April.

Hugh gave me the Bushfinger, Recluse and Kephart to check out (L-R). i'll tell ya...i can't decide between the bushfinger and the kephart. each time i pick them up, i change my mind.

just getting started....

I do have to admit that i took the easy way out. i already had a pattern for a knife i have that is of a similar size. i tried each of them in that sheath and they fit snug. so, you can tell that the cutouts aren't exactly a perfect fit to each knife. but, they should all be fully functional...uhhh...i hope! :D

We share the same back and forth feeling now since I got my new Kephart! The Bushfinger is amazing as is the Kephart. I'm excited to see how these turn out, Todd. Very very generous of you to make them! You might end up with both! Ha! ;)

A HUGE thank you to Todd! You're the man!
