I remember why I stopped carrying SAK's

I put on my lanyard having deja vu that I used to carry one like this. On the first day the blade opened up and poked me. Took it back off. I like SAKs but they have been notorious for opening in my pockets and poking me. Time to get some new knives.

Which model sak did that happen with? I thought that pretty much all of them had backsprings, which I think would make accidents like yours difficult right?

What? Sorry but this has my curiosity for all the 20+ years of carrying Saks I never had this happen to me.
Can you post pictures?

Of all the knives I would think that SAK or slipjoint would be the most unlikely to open..

I've carried one for years and the back spring keeps it tightly closed. Takes an effort to pull the blades open. Can't see it happening. The only knives I've ever had open in pocket, were clipped single blade, designed to be one hand openers, linerlocks and frame.

Every time I carry these in my pockets they open up and poke or stab me. I had like 8 of these. Gave away some to family.

Everyone's different. Its just something about the way you carry that makes this happen. Its not uncommon for people to do things a certain way that makes them uniquely prone to stuff. Maybe its time for a change. You could always use a sak classic slip case. Or change to a different style knife altogether. Like maybe something with a clip and can be carried tip up. Either way, safety first

Wow. I've never had any slip joint, including several SAKs, open inadvertantly, and I've carried one slip jpoint or another daily for nearly 45 years.

The only knife I know that has opened up on me is my Sebenza. Carrying keys in the same pocket , sometimes the key ring would catch on the stud and open the knife. Easy fix ,just file down the stud a bit.

My Wenger is 30 years old. Never happened to me, and I carry it almost everyday. I had two, lost one. Been thinking I'd get a new victorinox, hand my Wenger down, but I might as well just get my kids their own.

Highly unlikely on a SAK, or any slipjoint with a decent backspring. In 50 years of carrying SAKs (and with a family which considers this to be the only pocket knife ever...), I have never, ever heard of this. Unless, you have a broken backspring. It happens, but you would have noticed.

Never happened to me, but those little ones probably do have lighter springs. I carry a standard size SAK.

Hi. Also from my side, never experienced this. A handful of SAKs are in my carry rotation, the Spartan being my favourite.

You talked about a lanyard: can be this having some role? I normally carry my SAKs loose in the front right pocket. Even when having something else together (keys, coins, lighter, etc.), I never had “unexpected” openings.

The smallest SAKs can have light springs. That being said, I've never had one open unexpectedly. (I can't say the same thing about my Griptilian.). Try going one size up..the Executive, perhaps.

Odd, I've owned and carried a bunch of SAKs over the years and the only thing to ever open was the USB drive on one of my keychain ones..

Is this how you walk around?
