I remember why I stopped carrying SAK's

I've been carrying SAK's off and on for over 30 years. Never had this happen. Something strange going on here.

This reminds me of that time the Campbell's soup can accidentally opened itself on my kitchen counter. So irritating!

Hmmm, maybe an idea for a new thread.

"Show your most beat up Victorinox classic and has it ever opened in your pocket by itself?"

I can add to the "never had a SAK open in my pocket" list and add I've never had a slipjoint open in my pocket either.
Modern knives have and I had to stop carrying one because it happened more than once but never on a SAK no matter where I keep it (pocket, bag, lanyard etc.)

This made me lol. Thanks for that.

Count me in on the "never in 20+ years" category. The only slippie I've ever had open in my pocket was this piece of Chinese garbage I won at a fair when I was a kid. You could blow into the handle and open the blade. There was a spring, but I don't think it ever bade contact with the blade so it was just free swinging.

Got my first SAK 'round about 1982. Have carried one as often as not ever since. I've never even HEARD OF one going rogue and opening in someone's pocket.

Hard to even imagine how that could happen unless the backspring was completely non-functional. Seems like something easy to test.

Another "Never happened to me".

I would guess that the classics MIGHT bee the most prone to do it since they do have the weakest back springs. That said, I've never had one even come close to opening on me. I did have a little Kershaw open and split me to the bone and Svord pop open and gouge a hole in my truck seat:grumpy:

But most of my SAKs (admittedly they are all full/plus size) are almost nail-breakers to get open.

Add me to the list of people who've never had an sak (or any other type of slip joint for that matter) open in my pocket. I'm quite confused about how this could happen without something significant and noticeable wrong with the knife.

I have a Rambler, same spring as the Classic and yes it's weak. But not that weak. Don't get how that could happen. Something specific must be catching the nail nick, what else do you have in your pockets?

Wow, what? My SAKs have backsprings so strong, they'd probably chop your finger off if it got in the way when closing any of my them.

This thread is a funny... Even my friction folders don't open "By Accident" in my pocket. A SAK, no way ! And I'm not even a fan of the SAK. Just grew up with it, and there's that.

I have had axis lock knives open in my pocket (why my wife will not carry hers), I've had liner locks open in my pocket (why my wife and I will not carry them), and I have had frame locks open, and even one lock back (but only after a ledge gave way and I fell a ways down a mountain, but did not get cut). I have never had a SAK open on me and I carry them in my pocket with change, keys, and all sorts of paraphernalia.

It's happened to me a whole lot. Often it opens up in my pockets and I don't notice till I put my hand in my pocket and get bite or poked. I know for sure it happens. One time I remember I pulled the lanyard out my pocket to gets my keys which knife is attached to key ring, proceed to start car and see the blade is at half way pulled out.

Nope. Carry one every day in my pocket. Never happened to me.

Without some corroboration, I'm tempted to call shenanigans.

I Have been carrying SAK's for the last 20 years and have never had one open in my pocket. Not sure how that's possible. I have the same exact knife in your photos. I got it from my grandfather when I was a kid, after he carried it for many years. The backspring it as tight on it as the day it was new, even after decades of use.
