I think i am going to do it/ pre-new years resolution

Checking in. Same carry. Look above for the same picture.

Wonder if you we get the mods to change the name of the thread. Something along the lines of "Long term carry check in".

not a bad idea at all,
and here is mine

I HAD donuts and coffee
but the Grand High Muckba of the peanut clan came and ate and drank it all with his groupies
then they started clamoring for kool-aid and left when i didnt have any :D

Exactly. Well said sir. The theme of my 2014 is "Enough." I have enough. No more knives, no more gear except to replace what breaks or wears out. False desire indeed. It's easier just to not know that what you are missing. Probably happier too.

No kidding! Well said and I agree. Most of my life is this way I must say. I carry one gun, wear one watch, have one truck and one motorcycle, one wife, one pair of boots. Now pocket knives? lol, that's a bit different but I'm not as bad as some of the fellow-inflicted. I have less than 10 pocket knives but only about 4 or 5 of them are in the regular carry-rotation. In fact even this many drives me crazy as I like to "keep it simple" and uncluttered in life.

I guess I'm still working on "learning" these wonderful tools/companions and discovering what my needs are in a knife. It's narrowing down and I hope to one day just have 3 or 4 in the stable at most, with The One being the centerpiece and a couple others that rotate in as the #2 each day just for the fun of it.

I applaud you guys for such a commitment - to pick one or two knives and "make do" for a year! lol

...so I rarely carry it...... :D

Coffee and donuts, mmmm. I may have to take an extra bit of insulin and trundle down to the local donut shop with the wife now. It's a rare thing.

Good on ya, Pinnah! Hang in there and well done.

Still hanging in there with this duo. Sorry for recycling the same set of pics.

It's sort of an accidental resolution, since I never really had any particular intention to join in on this, and still have not officially. I.e., I feel no particular obligation to keep doing it until May. I just kind of started carrying them around the first of the year and haven't changed it up yet. I got some of my others out of the drawer this weekend for a little polishing, maintenance, and rearranging but they ended up back in the drawer when it was done, and the Cadet/Jack combo is still in the pockets.

Kind of reassuring to have that consistency isn't it? You know that what you are carrying is what has proven to be the best combo for you and your needs. You don't have to even think about it anymore as you reach for the right tool for the job at hand. It's a part of you and becoming second nature. Not to mention those two start becoming old friends and companions.

I'm still hurting a little over going to the Alox Farmer in the pocket where my Case mini-trapper rode for the last year. The left pocket has a SAK Manager in it. I still miss the MT though. I just like the pen and scissors on the Manager and the Farmer so much. I may have to turn the manager into a neck knife and make space for the mini-trapper just because it "belongs."

Amos, it's that "withor thinking" part that is key.

Skiers talk about getting to a state where the skis disappear. Famous ski racer Igmar Stenmark advised young skiers to stick with a single pair of ski to get to this point, instead of constantly changing skis to find an advantage.

For me, I needed to experiment a lot with knives to find my prefered combo. Now that I've found it and am sticking with it, the knives are disappearing in a good way. In fact, other knives are getting more frustrating.

Putting the "every day" in every day carry.

been to busy to get a new picture, but i am still going strong!
its been like almost 6 weeks now :D

Right there with ya buddy. Carrying the same two that I posted above, every day, since Jan 3rd. The Small Texas Jack is getting some more patina than depicted since I use it for apple slicing 3 or 4 times a week. I suppose I should take some fresh pics.

Have you learned anything interesting during the course of your experiment so far?

well, i wish i had some deep philosophical insight, but i really dont
i actually knew that everything i needed could be handled by any of the knives i had, but i wanted to make sure I could stick to one for an extended period of time
which after like 6 weeks, i think i have proven to myself, at least to some degree.

on the other hand, it has occurred to me that i really like the look of patina'd blades and i truly feel i can get my CV blades sharper than stainless, i kinda like the stainless on my 301, which i can get nearly as sharp (i really think i got a bum 309. it seems to be unable to keep a truly sharp edge..at all, i DONT have this issue with the 301 so i wonder if i got one with a bum heat treat). But bucks stainless is easier and i dont have to work at it as much, just dry it if wet and stick in my pocket. My case CV i need to check for spots, make sure its oiled at least once every couple weeks.

Also concerning the farmer vs my old wenger. It seems to me that the victorinox is much more susceptible to lint and pocket stuff then the wenger SI. I never had the wenger blades/tools gum up and i've had to really clean out the farmer twice...i mean run under hot water with dawn and just getting the junk out of the pivot to the point that the awl (in this case) had absolutely no snap

*shrugs* not sure if this is what you had in mind, but thats about what i learned lol
