I think i am going to do it/ pre-new years resolution

Rsmith,

The good news of gear related forums is they open up horizons. The bad news is they create desire, where none existed before.

The only way I can navigate this for myself is to give in to the desire for a period of time. Promiscuous experimentation. No, intentional experimentation. I changed bike tires every week for a year. Take 2 sets of skis to the resort and ski them both. Use two different camp stoves on the same trip.

For knives, this has meant going out of my way to try different knives for the same task. Cut potatoes with 2 knives on the counter. Put 2 knives in my pocket when in the shop and rotate between them during the same job. Every chance to use a knife is a chance to compare.

After that, I can settle in to my choice of bike, bike tire, ski or knife.

The saying of AT thru hikers is, hike your own hike. Find your own knife.

Suggest keeping the Texas Jack daily and running a second knife daily too. In the off pocket or pack. Go out of your way to compare them daily. I've found this reveals things to me I can't find on the net. How the knife feels in the hand. How it carries. How the look settles on me. It's functionality and durability. It's ease of use. It's ability to handle the knife chores I have.

Exactly. Well said sir. The theme of my 2014 is "Enough." I have enough. No more knives, no more gear except to replace what breaks or wears out. False desire indeed. It's easier just to not know that what you are missing. Probably happier too.

Great looking knife, how do you find it fits in pocket I have a similar sized medium stockman and it falls sideways driving me nutts..? Do you carry it loose with anything else? Great patina you have going on in the clip blade..

I have a similar commitment with a case yellow peanut that my wife gifted me for christmas. I'll bring pictures next time.

ok, so, this is going back to the Resolution thread. Today is day one
here is how the texas jack be looking today

and this link is for those who didnt know there was a 2nd thread that basically changed my mind as to what knife to complete this challenge with!

I'm getting real close to this myself....

I carry it loose in my pocket, but i carry LOTS of stuff in my pocket. in my right front pocket its just the texas jack and a small flashlight in a leather sheath. while at work i have a box cutter clipped to my right front pocket. (left pocket is my sak, my pack of smokes, my zippo) (back pockets are wallet and bandana man i carry alot of stuff every day!). its small enough that it falls sideways but also small enough that it doesnt bother me. the leather sheath for the flashlight which is about the same height but thicker is more bothersome than the knife. but either it just doesnt bother me all that much or i've just gotten used to it.

as for the patina, lots of oranges. seriously, i dont really eat apples, but i love me some oranges and i made a point of making that my orange blade a while back and thats how it came out after a relatively short time :D

Nice.. yea You do carry alot of stuff everyday haha. I carry a zippo, a knife, keys, wallet, hanky and phone.. I started just recently so I suppose I just haven't got used to it just yet. Its a great size of knife in hand I just find it hard to get used to in the pocket.. I'll keep working on it haha. Cheers,

Hey Ryan, been thinking about your self-imposed ordeal, so in a show of solidarity I've been carrying my Case Small Texas Jack all week, along with my Victorinox Cadet.

Finally took a few pics today:

I don't think I'll make it until May, but I can at least run one lap beside you.

i am always off work on sundays, so its probably gonna be my official "check in" day
so, checking in with some new pics i took this morning

It has been a while since you've updated this thread. For some strange reason, and without particular intention to do so, I have been sticking with you the whole time so far.

I've carried nothing but these two since at least Jan 6th, and may have started a little earlier than that:

i know, i am bad. While i have been upholding my agreement with the knives, i have not upheld my side of the deal by continuing to post here to track
that being said, i appreciate your bringing this thread back to my attention, and the good news is, i did in fact take some "current" pics just today
so without further ado

Pinnah, What a face on Fenway! :) I love the expression!

... I...have...strayed...I am too weak to carry just one, and the one constant carry is still the little #25...:o

That's why I don't make New years resolutions :p
