I think I'm gonna get a BK15....

I understand quite a bit about about being on a budget as far knife purchase go (father of 3 here). With anything in the Becker line you get so much knife for your $. The 15 is an awesome blade. The geometry makes it so slicy! I've used mine for everything from meals, processing meat, yard work, whittling, and processing wood for fire and it has never let me down. I've also recently been practicing hand sharpening recently and I'll tell ya; The 15 sharpens up like a razor!

You won't be disappointed!

And I only paid $45 for it so I did pretty well.

Spicy tweener! Bk15 :).

Really though, I did the same thing when I was wanting to buy the 15 (right after it went on sale). I just had to "ask" the beckerheads if I should go ahead and do it. Of course, that's not really "asking" so much as it is saying "write enough words about the bk15, to make me feel better about buying it". And then, as now, the beckerheads are more than willing to help out :D.

And as you see above, it worked. Be glad with your bk15, its the spiciest :D.

Sorry, I just had to :).

Ocelot an,

I get it. Laughs on me. Sometimes I think autocorrect is there for unintended entertainment. Slicey.

Autocorrect strikes again. OcnLogan. One of these days I'll get it right. I wonder if I can disable it somehow.

Somehow, I have ended up purchasing three of these. One I use regularly....the rest ride around on a couple daypacks/BOBs (not really for bugging out, just for if I have a chance to go walkabout). So versatile, from cutting birthday cake to whittling.....you have chosen well.

I got my new 15 today and I'm loving this knife the grind just like my 9 is flawless I don't know how they do it. I love the sweep of the blade it's very sword-like and the finger choil should be pretty nice when I need a little more control.

Just as the 9 I really don't care much for the sheath, but I figure at some point I'll get either kydex or leather sheaths for the both of them.

Thanks guys for all of the kind words of wisdom!

pics!

It's a great knife. Seeing GSOM's at last fall's gathering pretty much sold me on it.
dammit, I may have just decided to mod mine slightly...

I apologize for my poor photography skills guys. I figured I'd take a cool buddy pick, I'm gonna put the beautiful brown scales on the 15 as soon as I find the right size Allen bit.

Thanks for the heads up Travis I'll look into them.

I went back into the woods for a bit, but the humidity today is pretty high so I didn't last long.

Does this not look like Jurassic Park?

Though I would prefer a shotgun I think I was quite prepared in case I had to fight off any Raptors...

I actually cut through some brush with the BK15 and it did really well even as short as it is mostly due to the extreme factory sharpness.

Nice photos!

If you think it comes sharp from the factory... Just wait until you put a real edge on it with some stones  it gets just scary sharp!

My BK15 will hopefully be here Thursday! 43 bucks, which I thought was pretty decent. That's my 3rd Becker in the past month. I just noticed that Amazon, which is sometimes a barometer for prices to come elsewhere, has them priced at close to 80 bucks, incl. shipping. Don't know if that's a result of the persistent rumor that the 15 is going away forever, but several places still have them in the low to mid 40's , so if you want one......you know what "they" say about striking when the iron is hot...Shrug.

Correction: After some investigation, I found that Amazon does still have a seller asking around 46 bucks. Sorry for my misinformation.

Sadly I don't have the skill or the patience for that.

Yeah, it takes a bit to get used to. But once you have it, its another great skill to have for life.

The best video I've found for explanation so far would be:

The entire series of videos is pretty well explained. There are also some others on here that have their own videos that are also really good

Thanks I appreciate it I really should learn to sharpen knives I have way too many to not know how.

Its all in good fun. No offense intended at all, as I find myself doing that very frequently, and as you say, has resulted in some extremely funny/awkward moment with friends. So I responded how I normally do then, working the humor even more :).

To the op, I'm actually kind of surprised that the 15 worked on brush, given its small size/length. Did you use a lanyard? Also, learning to sharpen takes some time, but is totally worth it. For about... A year or so I sharpened every knife I could find (friends, co-workers, relatives, etc). And now while I'm no expert, I can freehand sharpen pretty much anything to shaving sharp, and most to hair whittling (beard hair though, which is kind of cheating :P). I use automotive sandpaper personally (cheap, easy, and readily available).

Congrats on the new steel :D.

No I don't typically use lanyards its just really sharp it was surprisingly good for clearing saplings out of my path. Of course a machete would be ideal for that type of thing, but I was just messing around.

One of these days I'll get a couple of stones and dedicate some time to sharpening practice. The reason I never have is mostly due to the fear of ruining the edge on one of my nice knives. I suppose that's what crappy chinese kitchen knives are for though.

That's what I did.

I gave a DMT Aligner sharpening system as a gift to a knife newbie and included a $3 chinese folder for him to learn on.
