I think the ZT 0888 Max is about to ship - the 0454 is also about to ship

I got a call from one of my regular dealers. He said that KAI called him, and said the Zero Tolerance 0888 Max is about to ship to him. I believe I will at least be able to get one. KAI did not tell him how many he is receiving.

After that phone call, I called a few other dealers I frequent. Two had not heard anything. One said they heard from their source and will be receiving 2. This dealer also said KAI might be having production problems again with the Max, and possibly will not make the originally-planned production numbers. They may fill the rest of the run with M390. Fudge!

I don't pretend to have any "in", so take this information for whatever it's worth.

What's the word on the street?

From Gear Geeks Live:

Basically we talked about the history and lineage of the ZT0888 as well as the ZT0777. We discussed, in particular, the secondary market prices and whether or not they matter to KAI’s business concerns. Thomas also gives us some official numbers on the ZT0888 and announces that there will be two other editions–the ZT0888MAX (which we had a hint of) and the ZT0888 in M390. The MAX comes with a new-to-the-industry steel Maxamet (datasheet here). The fascinating thing about the steel, which we touch on a bit, is the fact that it is so tough AND hard, coming in between high speed steels and actual carbides. Here are the numbers breakdowns for the ZT0888:

0888: 212-216 units

0888MAX: 120 units

0888M390: 130-150 units

The MAX and the M390 version drop soon.

I hope I get a call.....So excited for this one, and can't afford to buy one from the secondary market at the moment.

Definately want to know when these start popping up and where. I have a feeling these will go crazy fast.

I would be most gracious if somebody PM'ed me my best bet on where to purchase one of these. :) I know wishful thinking...

I wish I could find one also. I think these will be extremely expensive and much harder to get than the first 0888's.

I wouldn't be opposed if they re-released batches of these limited knives every few years. After all, they've made expenditures on the R&D/tooling/setup to make these, so re-releases would yield further benefit from those costs and satisfy customers who are after them.

I feel the same way. Some of this secondary market gouging has to stop. It looks like Kai just enjoy watching the riot caused by their limited editions.

I have a prepaid order on a 0888MAX but have no idea if it'll be 0888MAX or 0888M390. Also, are they supposed to be DLC coated in both cases?

The 3D milling on the titanium handle of the 0888 is phenomenal!

Ram, if you don't mind me asking. How much was the preorder?

About the same as the 0888. Sorry but can't be more specific. Also, my preorder was with the understanding that the dealer may or may not charge more depending on what ZT finally charges. The quandary is if the 0888M390 is worth that much. Certainly, 0888MAX is!

I think the 0888MAX will be the most exclusive but second to that will be 0888 ahead of 0888M390 even though fewer of the 0888M390 will be produced than 0888 simply because the 0888 has a composite blade compared to a single steel on the 0888M390.

I don't think even the Pope could absolve me of the lust I have in my heart for this one. I'm going straight to hell, for sure. Hopefully with a knife that can take the heat...:D Good luck, everyone. LOL, See ya all in hell!!!
