I think we owe Rosconey2 a BIG apology

He ran a thread a few weeks ago about his troubles with delivery from knifemaker Dan Prentice.
He caught some heat for it, be nice, be patient, what's with the attitude, etc

I chimed in that I also had been promised three different delivery dates.

When my knife finally came, it was not what I had ordered. Steamed, I wrote a semi-nasty post which I later edited/retracted. WHY did I retract it?

Because, taking the good advice of one Forumite, I contacted Mr. Prentice again and he assured me he would make things right.

Here is what he wrote, verbatim...

March 28, 2007:

dude...... let me make another for you and you can keep that one..... hows that.... just let me know...... will make things right by you....

send me an exact and will make it that way......... so you get a free knife out of it.... I will make it and have it done before the weekend...... and send it off next week.....promise....

Before the weekend.

The same day Mr. Prentice also wrote the following:

Dave, I have no problem to do extra for you....... I enjoy making knives and I have NO Problem in going above and beyond....it is just good business..... I am going to make another for you and if you don't want it then that is okay, if you do then I will think no less of you my friend... could you please post something up on bladeforums for me.....

Sounded upright to me. I posted his expression of good intentions and that was that.

Haven't heard from him since.

Emailed, called, nothing.

I'll just let that speak for itself.

Dan, once you have given someone a free knife, it is theirs to do with as they please. They can keep it, sell it, or throw it away. At that point it is totally up to them.

As far as Dan not getting back to diamdave for three weeks, I don't see any problem with that. He probably didn't think he had to make contact until the knife was ready to ship, and three weeks to make the replacement is pretty darn good. He sure as heck shouldn't be expected to put everything else he is doing on hold to make that knife.
