the american is called an ad10![]()
I understand that the made in USA aspect was a big selling point for many, but I like the Max for its own sake. I thought it was cool that they were able to have them made here, but it wasn't a deciding factor for me as to whether or not I'd buy one. CS obviously felt the need to move production, possibly due to production issues or costs or both. That doesn't bother me at all, in and of itself A good knife is a good knife, wherever it's made. I'm interested in seeing what the quality (and consistency of quality, which seems to have been an issue with the first few batches) will be like on the Italian produced versions. If they turn out to be awesome, I have no problem with the move, nor with buying one.
I liked the fact that the 4-Max was being made in America, but Italian manufacture is not a deal-breaker for me. Quality is my top concern. Also, I agree with those who think that the new color is an improvement.
I wonder if 4-Maxs from the early American runs will be worth more in a few years.
Anyone noticed that the blade shape is slightly different on the italian version? Look at the transition at the flat spine towards the tip, the curve is less abrupt and it's more similar to the custom 4max

They look the same to me when the product shots are side by side. There is also a vid on YouTube where a guy holds a custom with a CS one and they looked the same. Might just be lighting or the way the grinds were do....meaning different machines etc.
See the pic above, or you can go to these 2 place and compare them side by side:

In the Italian production pic it also seems the ricasso doesn't blend to the handle to form a smooth choil like the US made does. Not sure that I see a difference in the blade shape though.
