Well I'm glad to know that you all always carry a torx driver no matter where you go. Next time I am out in the field, backpacking or hunting I'll know who to call![]()
I just think for field maintenance they are a pain since manufacturers, even in their own model lines, cannot standardize torx sizes. Across manufacturers it is even worse.
I just like the Emerson concept that if you have access to any generic multitool or SAK you can completely disassemble your knife with no issue.
I normally have a Blue Box in the glove box. Carrying TORX are just handy.
FWIW I have never gotten so much gunk in my knife that a soapy water bath couldn't handle with ease.
If you need a field set of Torx drivers I would recommend the Blue Box by Benchmade. Please don't give me any crap about brining up a BM product in the Spyderco forum. I'm just saying. It's small (smaller than a pack of cards), has the torx bits you need for stripping almost any knife down, and it's cheap. Look into one. Torx and sometimes allen heads are pretty much the standard in the industry now. Personally I think Flat Head and Phillips Head screws look like garbage. I like the clean look of the Torx and feel they are a superior screw head.
I don't mind them, actually a very good set of TORX bits. The Kershaw T-Tool is pretty good too.
